EagleSoft Citation X problems

Featured Replies

Hi, Seems like quite a few people here at Avsim have this aircraft so I thought I'd post question here also. I purchased but I can only get a cockpit in virtual with no gauges or anything. I have no panel. After reading several posts at their forums, it seems many are having same problem because they are running Fs2002 and Windows me like myself. It is a lot of money to spend and then run into problems. This is my first purchase from them. I thought they beta-test everything? Can someone here give some solution? Thank you, S.

This is in the "readme" if it helps...."FS2002 Installation: NOTICE! As in previous Eaglesoft aircraft the CX MUST be loaded from 2D cockpit view in the *FS2002 Version! "Other than that, I'm running in FS2004 with no installation problems whatsoever. Might as well make a few comments, such as great exterior, one of the better VC's, & good handleing qualities; although I have not explored all the possibilities yet.L.Adamson

First off, you have 2 strikes against you for any complex FS addon, windows ME and FS2002.There are new panel configs for FS2002 users included, did you install them? I have the Cit X running on 2 rigs and for the most part everything has been fine and all the problems I had (very few) were reported and addressed. These guys have been very thorough in what we were to check, there is no way to account for every single configuration out there and I am sorry for your situation, but I saw your post on this on the ES forum and I am sure they are looking into it, as well as any other simmer that is having a problem.Hopefully Larry's reply helped. "FS2002 Installation: NOTICE! As in previous Eaglesoft aircraft the CX MUST be loaded from 2D cockpit view in the *FS2002 Version! "Please note the emphasis is on *FS2002 version*. It is not true for the FS2004 version:-)Perhaps a note wil help....the gauging in the CX is a total integration using techniques that FS2004 loves and *FS2002* does not like.In addition, Microsoft no longer supports Win98 with the exception of their GDI+ if memory serves.Win ME was, in my humble opinion a joke the day it was released. In short the challenge is to use advanced techniques and maintain backwards compatibility with a 1 generation older sim package and 2 to 3 generation older operating sytems. For the reasons stated above we are now leaning towards a policy of no backwards compatibilty of our products as we move forward:-)

Good Morning all,First let me say that I have enjoyed the X just about as much as I have the CS727, and that is a bunch. What a nice aircraft -- beautiful in graphics, functional, and a blast to fly. Not to mention a few added accessories not found in other aircraft for FS.Of course, this issue has it share of problems, but as with anything, I am sure they will be fixed with a patch, post haste.Lord knows, we suffered with the CS727 long until it came close, but as with the 727, the X has GREAT potential. After cruising the X forum at Eaglesoft, I found that my emergency last evening while flying from KDAY to KMEM was a 'bug' and not this pilots 'error'. (even old, real life pilots make mistakes)I had just descended from FL220 to 13k on base to KMEM when both engines lost fire, every alarm in the world began to flash and ring and my wife, (who was cooking dinner)and takes a moderate interest in my simming came running into my office to see how I had 'screwed up'. She loves it when the 'old pro' stubs his toe. I tried to air restart the engines, no luck, went through 'my' emergency proceedures that life has shown me I should follow, no luck.Failing to re fire the engines, and now below 10k, I decided that the only way to save this puppy was to do a 'short emergency final', drop the gear at the last instant and pray I had enough air speed to get the job accomplished . . .walkin the park! This baby just setteled down, glided like a hawk and touched down with plenty of room to spare, with an abundence of speed.Later, checking everything, (new aircraft are a learning curve), I could find nothing that I had done wrong. In cruising the forum this morning I found that the engines lost fire when fuel in the center tank went below a certain limit . . .I was at 3473 lbs in the center takn......mystery solved.I'm sure this will be corrected very soon, and am most pleased with the X . . . besides, last night was most exciting -- added a bit of "oh-s**t" to a otherwise normal flight.Lastly, if you guys are listening, there is also a problem with the thrust reversers at times...but I'm sure you already know that..Great aircraft, and looking forward to your fix of these minor problems.Best,Clayton T. Ron....In all fairness to Microsoft, there are no restrictions with the default FS2004 package and Windows 98. I participated in the FS2004 beta, and those at Microsoft who invited me to do so were well aware that my gaming system has Windows 98 installed. If a third party provider chooses to exploit functionality older O/S's don't support, that is their decision. I think you and your team are moving heaven and earth to arrive at an acceptable solution for Windows 98 users. But I also think statements like "Microsoft no longer supports Win98 with the exception of their GDI+ if memory serves...." need to be qualified, as 98 was listed as an acceptable O/S for FS2004, and all default components work fine with it. Regards,JohnEdit: This is a bit O/T, but I somewhat recall an overseas issue regarding Microsoft's dropping of support for Windows 98, as many third world nations aren't as easily able to retool when Microsoft decides a previous O/S is dead. I understand Microsoft has extended their support of Windows 98 due to this issue.

John,There eventually comes a time when you gotta get rid of that old LADA and buy a Later model, Windows98 IS that Lada. Time to go get a Porsche.Just because the OS is there, doesn't mean it has to be supported, if there are limitations, and only a tiny amount use it, then it's not worthwhile, afterall should we support Windows 95?Afterall, Windows 98 is 6 years old. That's a lifetime in computer technology and advances.

Paul--I am not arguing over support being dropped for 98 in general (and to clarify, Microsoft will be supporting Windows 98 for on demand security hot fixes until 2006 on a case by case basis). I just don't want users here to believe FS2004 was released without support for Windows 98... Many like myself have chosen not to upgrade for various reasons--in my case, XP doesn't support some scanning equipment that still works, and that I have invested quite a bit of money in. Rather than clutter my home full of PC's, I'd rather keep one and use the money I'd otherwise spend on my family. So I suspect this 'ol LADA will stay frugal, perhaps even a cheapskate in your eyes, to the very end.... And that's rather off my original intent. The default FS2004 install works fine with Windows 98, end of story. Eaglesoft is within their rights to not support it, but not at the expense of making it seem like FS2004 was not intended to run with it. I don't think that was the intent of Ron's post, but it could be perceived that way and I just wanted it clear...

John and others,I defer to the experts like yourselves to argue the merits of win98 or whether MS supports older systems. The intent of my post was/is to say that Eaglesoft is a company with INNOVATIVE ideas and techniques which seem to conflict with older OSs.Our policy will most likely be to move on with our innovations rather than continually beat our heads against the proverbial "backwards compatibity" wall.:-)We have spent countless man hours in an attempt to overcome these obstacles to innovation, and frankly it has taken it's toll:-(We are currently giving it the last go around and hopefully we have some answers. If not we will continue moving forward to bring the best that we can do with the current and future OSs.:-)
