Virtual cockpit freezes shortly after starting a flight

Featured Replies

Purchased the 737 NGX package earlier this week but I'm having trouble getting it to run correctly. It appeared to install correctly and when I start a flight I'm able to pan around in the cockpit but after a short period of time the view locks and I haven't figured out how to reset it. Occassionally, the Simulation Paused message appears at the bottom but pressing the "P" key does nothing. I'm able to manipulate any display or switch that's in my field of view when pan freezes but that's about it. Initially I was running on a stock FSX.cfg but I ran it through *******'s optimizer yesterday; problem remains.System is Asus Maximus II mobo, CPU is Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 at 2.83G, 4GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX260 GPU. I'm running FSX SP2 with 737 NGX. No other add-ons. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Mike Coomer

How long is a short peroid?Do you allow the plane to go through its start up phase which takes about 20 secondsIve found hitting any keys during this period can sometimes cause fsx to crashIt might be a corrupted fsx dll file theres a link on the pmdg home page that deals with fixing corrupted dll files

When I first started using the airplane it would try to start he engines and I'd click the levers to cutoff. I've now set the program to start cold and dark so that I can do the startup. Do I still need to wait for the plane to run through a start procedure for cold and dark? As for when the problem occurs it's generally 10 minutes or so after starting a flight. I'll be flipping switches or setting the FMC and everything will be fine. Change views to get to a different switch and boom...unable to pan or zoom.Since posting above I've uninstalled FSC and will reinstall it per the directions on the PMDG site. Typically, I'll install FSX and immediately insall SB 1 and 2 without running the program. I see that PMDG says you should install the base software, run it, install SB1 and run FSX again, then install SB2 and run FSX with that before installing the jet. I'm going to try that tonight with a sock FSX.cfg file and see if it works. If so I'll tweak the cfg and continue to tune the program until it fails again. Mike

OK...reinstalled FSX per the instructions on the PMDG site. Program went into C:FSX, flew it, installed SB1, flew that, installed SB2, flew that, then loaded the 737 NGX add on. Launched the jet, didn't touch a thing until the jet was up and through its self start routine. Clicked into the FMC to set initial position, exited the FMC and moved to the overhead panel to set IRIS to NAV and when I clicked back to the virtual cockpit pan and zoom was frozen. Total time was probably 3 minutes from flight start to freeze. Not very happy right now. Eventually I might be able to taxi this jet. Probably not too much to hope for.Mike
