  1. I've been fighting various performance problems with FSX (crashes at end of flights and not starting properly) and have to decided that I want to completely uninstall and reinstall the game. I've got DVD's, service bulletins, and NGX install and bulletins in hand. I know that PMDG recommends installing FSX then starting it and beginning a flight before installing each bulletin and before installing their product. I also know that a lot of folks (me included) move uiautomationcore.dll to the FSX root. There are other optimization recommendations out there as well. So, if you were going to begin from scratch, how would you do it to ensure the most reliable gameplay? I'll be putting it on an SSD, in the root (C:\FSX). Thanks in advance for any advice or tips you can provide. Mike
  2. In the past I had crashes while running the program but haven't had them since moving UIAutomation.dll to the root FSX directory. Now, the program runs flawlessly to the completion of flight but when I hit escape to exit the flight I end up on the desktop with a blank FSX home screen stuck offscreen in the lower right. Clicking on it does nothing. Trying to grab the title bar and drag it does nothing. If I click in the blue menu bar area on the right side of the home screen I can get one of the tabs to appear (Learning Center, Settings, Missions, etc.). After that, clicking has no effect. Anyone see this with their crashes? I've thought about simply reinstalling the program to see if that fixes it but I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas before I do that. I've attached a screen grab showing the symptoms. Thanks, Mike
  3. Hi all, I've been flying PMDG's 737NGX for about a year now and would love to find business jets for FSX with the same level of flight deck functionality. Who makes the best mediums to large business jet models for FSX? Thanks, Mike
  4. I work for Boeing and have been fortunate enough to fly a few flights as mission crew/observer during flight tests on AWACS in the US and Japan. I've been fortunate enough to get a look at a working flight deck during those flights. To have a chance to actually fly one...which arm, leg and/or ###### do I have to give up. Thanks for sharing. Mike
  5. And I found them. I guess it's like waiting for a bus. Light a cigarette and it shows up two seconds later. Moved them all to my sim folder so I don't misplace them again. Mike
  6. I've got 6 drives on the PC and a couple laptops and I know my manuals are on one of them but I can't find them doing a .pdf search. The only ones I can find are the introductions, tutorials 1 and 2, and the SDK document. Would somebody take a look and list the specific names for the manuals so I can do another search for the specific file names? Thanks, Mike
  7. I wonder if the phenomenon you're witnessing in real application is due to the resolution of the monitoring equipment or the refresh rate of the display. That could explain the rapid rise from 30 to 40%. Just a thought. Mike
  8. See, I'd love to fly something like the Dassault, Bombardier, or Gulfstream. Big enough to jump the pond but small enough to fly shorter hops just about anywhere. Mike Coomer
  9. I love flying the 737NGX with all the flight deck funtionality it provides. Any chance that PMDG will bring that to a business jet model? I'd love to fly a Global Express, Falcon, or G650 with all the bells and whistles. Mike
  10. My VC settings are high res as well and I'm not seeing the wingtips. I've got all sliders in FSX to the right and have great performance but no wingtips. Game performance is great (4.5GHz chip and HD 7950 video) but it would be nice to add that little detail to the mix. Mike
  11. No, I found a copy of SP1 that I'd downloaded at some point in the past. Since MS is out fo the flight sim business now I guess I'd better hold onto those files.
  12. Well, maybe not a wrap. I've got FSX and 737NGX installed, ran the optimizer, moved UIautomationcore.dll to the FSX root, and the sim comes up and runs. Didn't have time to fly yesterday so I'll have to see if it will run for a long period without crashing but I did run into a problem. Two actually. When I hit esc and then ended the flight, I crashed to desktop and had the fatal error message come up. We'll see if that was a coincidence when I play some more. Also, I couldn't get the fps limiter to run. Unpack the program and GUI and try to run it but it simply flases onscreen then disappears. Back to the search function. Mike
  13. Well, I took the "clean boot" concept one step further. Aside from motherboard drivers and utilities Id I'd only installed Windows, Office, and FSX so I decided to wipe the slate clean and start over. Windows DVD in the drive, delete the partition, and reinstall. Did my program installs, entered the product key for FSX and no "License Required!" popups. One thing I did notice is that at the top of the popup it said FSX in the title bar so it was definitely not another program. Anyway, all's well that ends well I suppose. Got SP1, SP2, and PMDG 737NGX loaded. Looking forward to going home tonight and seeing what an i7-3770K can do when you kick it in the butt. Going to move all the sliders to the right, check all the boxes, and taxi to the active! Also, at some point in the past I'd downloaded and saved SP1 and 2 to my external drive. Disaster narrowly averted. Mike
  14. You know, instead of dumping your controls in the garbage, I could probably be talked into holding on to them for you in case you change your mind and decide to fly some more. I'm jes sayin...
  15. I believe I've tried with IE and Firefox, but I'll double check when I get home. I don't have Chrome. If all else fails I'll contact MS but I'm not hopeful. Sounds like support for FSX is minimal at this point. Fresh install to a new SSD drive. Only software installed period is Win 7 Pro 64, Office 2010, FSX. Lightroom 4 is installed to a second SSD. Two HDDs, one newly formatted, are for storage only. I'll check task manager to see what else is running next time I get the popup. Mike
