  1. I've been fighting various performance problems with FSX (crashes at end of flights and not starting properly) and have to decided that I want to completely uninstall and reinstall the game. I've got DVD's, service bulletins, and NGX install and bulletins in hand. I know that PMDG recommends installing FSX then starting it and beginning a flight before installing each bulletin and before installing their product. I also know that a lot of folks (me included) move uiautomationcore.dll to the FSX root. There are other optimization recommendations out there as well. So, if you were going to begin from scratch, how would you do it to ensure the most reliable gameplay? I'll be putting it on an SSD, in the root (C:\FSX). Thanks in advance for any advice or tips you can provide. Mike
  2. In the past I had crashes while running the program but haven't had them since moving UIAutomation.dll to the root FSX directory. Now, the program runs flawlessly to the completion of flight but when I hit escape to exit the flight I end up on the desktop with a blank FSX home screen stuck offscreen in the lower right. Clicking on it does nothing. Trying to grab the title bar and drag it does nothing. If I click in the blue menu bar area on the right side of the home screen I can get one of the tabs to appear (Learning Center, Settings, Missions, etc.). After that, clicking has no effect. Anyone see this with their crashes? I've thought about simply reinstalling the program to see if that fixes it but I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas before I do that. I've attached a screen grab showing the symptoms. Thanks, Mike
  3. Hi all, I've been flying PMDG's 737NGX for about a year now and would love to find business jets for FSX with the same level of flight deck functionality. Who makes the best mediums to large business jet models for FSX? Thanks, Mike
  4. I work for Boeing and have been fortunate enough to fly a few flights as mission crew/observer during flight tests on AWACS in the US and Japan. I've been fortunate enough to get a look at a working flight deck during those flights. To have a chance to actually fly one...which arm, leg and/or ###### do I have to give up. Thanks for sharing. Mike
  5. And I found them. I guess it's like waiting for a bus. Light a cigarette and it shows up two seconds later. Moved them all to my sim folder so I don't misplace them again. Mike
  6. I've got 6 drives on the PC and a couple laptops and I know my manuals are on one of them but I can't find them doing a .pdf search. The only ones I can find are the introductions, tutorials 1 and 2, and the SDK document. Would somebody take a look and list the specific names for the manuals so I can do another search for the specific file names? Thanks, Mike
  7. I wonder if the phenomenon you're witnessing in real application is due to the resolution of the monitoring equipment or the refresh rate of the display. That could explain the rapid rise from 30 to 40%. Just a thought. Mike
  8. See, I'd love to fly something like the Dassault, Bombardier, or Gulfstream. Big enough to jump the pond but small enough to fly shorter hops just about anywhere. Mike Coomer
  9. I love flying the 737NGX with all the flight deck funtionality it provides. Any chance that PMDG will bring that to a business jet model? I'd love to fly a Global Express, Falcon, or G650 with all the bells and whistles. Mike
  10. My VC settings are high res as well and I'm not seeing the wingtips. I've got all sliders in FSX to the right and have great performance but no wingtips. Game performance is great (4.5GHz chip and HD 7950 video) but it would be nice to add that little detail to the mix. Mike
  11. No, I found a copy of SP1 that I'd downloaded at some point in the past. Since MS is out fo the flight sim business now I guess I'd better hold onto those files.
  12. Well, maybe not a wrap. I've got FSX and 737NGX installed, ran the optimizer, moved UIautomationcore.dll to the FSX root, and the sim comes up and runs. Didn't have time to fly yesterday so I'll have to see if it will run for a long period without crashing but I did run into a problem. Two actually. When I hit esc and then ended the flight, I crashed to desktop and had the fatal error message come up. We'll see if that was a coincidence when I play some more. Also, I couldn't get the fps limiter to run. Unpack the program and GUI and try to run it but it simply flases onscreen then disappears. Back to the search function. Mike
  13. Well, I took the "clean boot" concept one step further. Aside from motherboard drivers and utilities Id I'd only installed Windows, Office, and FSX so I decided to wipe the slate clean and start over. Windows DVD in the drive, delete the partition, and reinstall. Did my program installs, entered the product key for FSX and no "License Required!" popups. One thing I did notice is that at the top of the popup it said FSX in the title bar so it was definitely not another program. Anyway, all's well that ends well I suppose. Got SP1, SP2, and PMDG 737NGX loaded. Looking forward to going home tonight and seeing what an i7-3770K can do when you kick it in the butt. Going to move all the sliders to the right, check all the boxes, and taxi to the active! Also, at some point in the past I'd downloaded and saved SP1 and 2 to my external drive. Disaster narrowly averted. Mike
  14. You know, instead of dumping your controls in the garbage, I could probably be talked into holding on to them for you in case you change your mind and decide to fly some more. I'm jes sayin...
  15. I believe I've tried with IE and Firefox, but I'll double check when I get home. I don't have Chrome. If all else fails I'll contact MS but I'm not hopeful. Sounds like support for FSX is minimal at this point. Fresh install to a new SSD drive. Only software installed period is Win 7 Pro 64, Office 2010, FSX. Lightroom 4 is installed to a second SSD. Two HDDs, one newly formatted, are for storage only. I'll check task manager to see what else is running next time I get the popup. Mike
  16. Built a new coputer with an i7 processor and a couple of SSDs and tried to reinstall FSX. Loaded both discs, install looked good, entered my product key, and got an activation succesful message. All good right? When I started the game I got a popup stating something to the effect that the license was invalid, did I want to generate a new key. I assumed this meant I would be prompted to enter my key (one day I'll learn to never assume anything). When I clicked OK a popup appeared immediatedly saying "License Required!". Click OK and it pops up right away. Clicked OK again, and again, and again and after the fifth or sixth time it went away and the game loaded to the start page. For grins I flew the ultralight for a minute then closed the game. Restarted the game and had the same "License Required!" popups. Decided to uninstall the game, reboot, and reinstall. Entered my product key, got an activation successful message, but still had "License Required!" popups when I tried to start the game. Also, it may be because of the license message but when I tried to download SP1 I got a page not found error. Is it me or did MS take the update down? If so, is it available somewhere. Any help with either of these problems is appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  17. And that's a wrap. Thank you guys. Mike
  18. I just bought a 3770K (come on UPS!) and can't wait to put together the new computer but I won't be worried about pushing for 5. I'm going to move nice and slow to 4.4, run that on Prime95 to make sure it's good, watch the temps, and if they're sweet that's where it stays. If I can't run FSX at 4.4 I don't want it. I just spent $329 for that chip and whether FSX will run or not, I know that Lightroom, Office, and Windows will. So, a nice 24/7 overclock is good enough for me. Mike
  19. OK...I had what appeared to be a memory controller failure on my motherboard. Intermittent blue screens, programs freezing, computer restarting for no reason. Tried doing some troubleshooting, swapped out some DIMMs, inspected some sockets, no joy. Worked for about three weeks trying figure it out and finally gave up. Picked up new mobo, CPU, RAM, and GPU from NewEgg. Everything will be here Friday. Now, when I first bought the 737-NGX I remember that I had some problems with the install and ended up uninstalling FSX and reinstalling from scratch. Trying to remember exactly what I did and I'm hoping somebody can help me. My recollection is that I installed FSX, ran it to the control panel, installed SP 1, ran it to the control panel, installed SP2, ran that to the control panel, then I installed the PMDG add on. After doing that and installing those service packs I still had problems with the sim locking up and remember that I read on here somewhere about moving a file from one folder to another. That's really the part I can't remember and can't seem to find with a search. Also, there was an online optimizer that I can't seem to locate anymore. If someone can point me to the name of the file and where I need to move it and the online optimizer I'd really appreciate it. Having a blazing fast CPU won't help me much if the program won't run. Thanks, Mike
  20. Realistically, you would use the panel to check the availability of power before switching sources. Let's assume you're on APU and want to switch to ground power or a gen set. Before switching you want to check that the bus you're switching too is hot and is providing good voltage at 400Hz. Mike
  21. Which military version of the NG are we talking about? Just curious because I've worked with AEW&C and now P-8. Are you talking about one of those or the transports that some countries fly? Mike
  22. Grrr...two days in row now, I've flown, landed, and taxied to the gate only to be hit. Day before I'm sitting at the gate shutting down the jet and suddenly the game stops and tells me I've crashed into an object. Apparently, the jet that was parked next to me taxied away from the gate and right into me. Today I can see this truck coming down the taxiway so I watch it, it's just driving straight minding it's own business when it suddenly does a right turn right into me. I want the realism of having active ground traffic but come on. Didn't the folks at Microsoft teach these things how to drive??? Mike
  23. OK...reinstalled FSX per the instructions on the PMDG site. Program went into C:FSX, flew it, installed SB1, flew that, installed SB2, flew that, then loaded the 737 NGX add on. Launched the jet, didn't touch a thing until the jet was up and through its self start routine. Clicked into the FMC to set initial position, exited the FMC and moved to the overhead panel to set IRIS to NAV and when I clicked back to the virtual cockpit pan and zoom was frozen. Total time was probably 3 minutes from flight start to freeze. Not very happy right now. Eventually I might be able to taxi this jet. Probably not too much to hope for.Mike
  24. When I first started using the airplane it would try to start he engines and I'd click the levers to cutoff. I've now set the program to start cold and dark so that I can do the startup. Do I still need to wait for the plane to run through a start procedure for cold and dark? As for when the problem occurs it's generally 10 minutes or so after starting a flight. I'll be flipping switches or setting the FMC and everything will be fine. Change views to get to a different switch and boom...unable to pan or zoom.Since posting above I've uninstalled FSC and will reinstall it per the directions on the PMDG site. Typically, I'll install FSX and immediately insall SB 1 and 2 without running the program. I see that PMDG says you should install the base software, run it, install SB1 and run FSX again, then install SB2 and run FSX with that before installing the jet. I'm going to try that tonight with a sock FSX.cfg file and see if it works. If so I'll tweak the cfg and continue to tune the program until it fails again. Mike
  25. Purchased the 737 NGX package earlier this week but I'm having trouble getting it to run correctly. It appeared to install correctly and when I start a flight I'm able to pan around in the cockpit but after a short period of time the view locks and I haven't figured out how to reset it. Occassionally, the Simulation Paused message appears at the bottom but pressing the "P" key does nothing. I'm able to manipulate any display or switch that's in my field of view when pan freezes but that's about it. Initially I was running on a stock FSX.cfg but I ran it through *******'s optimizer yesterday; problem remains.System is Asus Maximus II mobo, CPU is Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 at 2.83G, 4GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX260 GPU. I'm running FSX SP2 with 737 NGX. No other add-ons. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Mike Coomer
