Yes you can. go into the Joysticksand equipment screenbuttonsclick the general pan left and right buttons, they are on the far right of the screen. The procedure is to first click the hat switch left, then click the pan left right radio button. Same for the right. I use the command 3d forward button for the forward hat switch position.

Pleas allow me to expand on this topic a bit. When I first posted on this thread, I only had a few seconds before an appointment, but wanted to give you the fast nitty gritty so to speak. I will expand a bit as someone totally unused to X-Plane may read this and help them also.To start, place the mouse cursor near the top of the window, a menu bar will drop down. Go to, SettingsJoystick & EquipmentButtons Basic. Look to the far right of that page, and in the second group from the bottom, are the commands for the hatswitch pan function. the two bottom commands in that group are, General command pan left fast, and pan right fast, these are the commands I favor for the hatswitch. The group just above that group, that is the third group from the bottom on the far left, is a pan left and right they are slower than the pan fast commands, your choice what works best for you.To get those commands into your hatswitch, first push the hatswitch to the left, then click the radio button for the left pan command, repeat for the right. I like to have the hatswitch to look forward if I push the hatswitch straight forward, to get thsi command into your hatswitch, first push the hatswitch forward then click the, View 3D cockpit commd-look, that command is found in the second column from the left about half way down the View column. For the back part of the hatswitch, I use the General tilt down command, but I will leave that up to you for your favorite use. :(
