February 12, 201214 yr Being new to XP I wanted to try out converting Scenery I have from FSX to XP. I found this free utility called FS2XP, which im sure most of you are familliar with. I tried it on a freeware airport I have for FSX. Its scenery for Republic Airport in Farmingdale Long Island (My home Airport). Its very simple scenery, So I thought Id try it first. Aside from some graphical glitches here and there, it works better than I though it would. So then I tried Aerosoft Manhattan X and it also works but has many untextured buildings buildings mixed in and some funky stuff going on with the Brooklyn Bridge, but otherwise looks pretty good. Better than default anyways. NO frame rate loss either. This conversion took less than 5 mins to do, So Im thinking addon companies like aerosoft and flytampa, should not have much trouble converting their stuff to xplane if they choose to, and without the glitches. Now, Im sure this is against Aerosofts EULA, So im deleting it until they release an official version and I dont recomend doing this with any payware stuff you have. It was just an experiment to see what it might look like. Here are some shots.Rob
February 12, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hi RobNot all sceneries will cleanly convert using those scripts. You will need to open the newly converted scenery in Overlay Editor and clean up any artifacts or rogue objects that may appear.
February 12, 201214 yr Author Thanks GoranM,I didnt know about overlay editor. I like to play around with this stuff, so Ill see what I can do using the smaller freeware scenery I have.Rob
February 12, 201214 yr Commercial Member Overlay Editor is actually very easy to use. It's a matter of starting it, loading up the scenery inside it, selecting objects and moving/adjusting/deleting.As you say, try it out on smaller scenery and get a feel for it. Best of luck with it!G
