Greetings...PRE-EMPTIVE: Thank you all for your previous responses to similar questions posted. By reading (and re-reading) numerous responses, I have put together the following upgrade package for my existing computer.Upgrades:Win7 x64i5 2500K (to be overclocked)Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 Corsair A70 CoolerAsus GTX 570 8GB Kingston HYPER X Genesis 1600 CL9 Seasonic X660 PSU600GB SATA 6.0 32MB Cache WD VelociRapter (FSX) (BTW, currently on sale[feb13] on Amazon for $230)300GB SATA 6.0 32MB Cache WD VelociRapter (OS)500 GB SATA (existing, for storage and various sundry programs)My Question:Since I have Smart Response Technology(Z68) available, should I add a small 40 ~ 60GB SST to run SRT? RAID and FSX and SRT? Not so sure I understand.Of all my research, I couldn’t put together a definitive answer. Any thoughts/help will be appreciated. Continued Thanks.Bobinator

Win7 x64 ~ i5 2500K (to be overclocked) ~ Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 ~ Corsair A70 Cooler ~ 8GB Kingston HYPER X Genesis 1600 CL9

Asus GTX 570 ~ Seasonic X660 PSU

300GB SATA 6.0 32MB Cache WD VelociRapter (OS) ~ 600GB SATA 6.0 32MB Cache WD VelociRapter (FSX) ~ 500 GB SATA (storage and various sundry programs)

Precision Flight Controls; Cirrus Mooney Yoke ~ Cirrus GA Rudder Pedals ~ Throttle Quadrant Console w several configurations

Go Flight; (2x) GF-T8, (2x) RP-48

Wait for Ivy Bridge. You will get PCIe3 and get the tri-gate transistors. OC potential will likely be better than SB and they will run cooler.IB+Kepler/AMD 7XXX GPU+PCIe3= FSX insane performance.

Hey there benorg...Yes...as I mentioned in my first paragraph, I read a lot of responses to other people asking help with new gear. Your position to wait the one/two months for Ivy Bridge is well known and was considered. It seems there's alway a FSX killer right around the corner. But I'm jumping in right now.By any chance, do you know the answer to adding the small sst to improve perfrmance?ThanksBobinator

It just doesn't make alot of sense (money-wise) to buy a product when a new series is coming in just a few months.Ivy Bridge paired with a new PCIe3 graphics card will be worth the wait. Please wait for tri-gate! :Big Grin:

If thats what he wants, let him and give him the advice. It is not even certain that Ivy Bridge is even gonna be a "killer" for FSX, in fact, I still think many of us will be having problems with the most insane addons all at once. SO to answer your question Bob, your system looks very well specced. I might suggest though that your go for tighter timings on the RAM, and maybe a more gutsy cooler like a H80 for an even better overclock. Oh, and that ASUS GTX 570, its a beast! To answer your question about SRT, its basically just a smart piece of technology that figures what you do most and puts that on the SSD. So if you dont want to make the decisions yourself then I would have the SRT, if you want to put in the effort for maybe better performance, just go for a straight SSD and have a Velociraptor for FSX.
