Which of my hardware can be causing all these little stutters and lags?

Sorry Word Not Allowed, could you please give more detailed instructions? Load this situation where and how? What is this file exactly and how do I run it? Is it some kind of video?
You don't know what these files are? Seriously? You should really dig deeper into FSX dude :)Put them into My DocumentsMicrosoft Flight Simlator X Files folder. And load it in the FSX.

FileS? I only see one file, or at least, I can only download 1. But it says there are 5 downloads in your attachment. But ok, I put the stutters.txt file in there, and didn't show up in FSX. So then I saved the stutters.txt as stutters.FLT, and also as stutters.FSSAVE, so I had both of these files which are normally required for a saved flight. Btu when I open the stutters.FSSAVE, FSX says that it's a corrupt file...

Arjenfsx, rename the file to stutters.rar, then un-rar, then load it!Yep, like Word Not Allowed says, more FSX digging is needed. :Peace:U know there´s a whole learning section in FSX...PS: The "5 downloads" is the actual times this file is downloaded by Avsim users.

When I right-click on it, and click "Rename", and rename it to "stutters.rar", no new file or something is created, it doesn't change into a .rar or something. However, when I right-click on stutters.txt and clock "Edit", then it opens. When I then click "File" -> "Save as...", and save it as stutters.rar, then a new .rar file is created called "stutters", with the winrar icon next to it. When I then right click and click "Extract here", it says "This file is either unknown format or is damaged". I'm really sorry for my stupidity guys. :) I know quite a lot about pc's, but sometimes I just look stupid when it comes to some things like this lol.

W-h-a-t?What you are doing is wrong. Like... completely wrong.Man, I tested it. It's working.Go into options of windows explorer, and set to show extensions. I believe that's your problem. (Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types.)The visible file MUST be stutters.txt and then you have to rename it into stutters.rar.Right click on it, extract here...You get 3 files.Copy them into folder I noted above. You do not open the file with the notepad or any other editor, especially not saving it again with it.

Arjen's video shows rendering that is smooth-as-silk, sprinkled in with some Vsync tearing -not sure you can do anything about that with todays hardware.http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2263376Word Not Allowed's video shows a chunky stutter -a system that is choking on the rendering process ...does he need faster hardware or "simply" tune his FSX config file?http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2263464My I5 2500k running MS Flightsim 98 at 5.0ghz ....what's the problem? :-)

lol ....I think that's million dollar question, Word Not Allowed.....Look, I'm just here to add some entertainment value to this topic. Like so many other threads on this topic the 'answer' is always throw more hardware at 'it'. What is 'it'? My point: Bojote spent months tweaking 'software' to work with a very specific hardware set ....For someone whom may be thinking that they can just go down to the store and buy their way out of a performance issue, that is not understood, is absurd.

Hmmm... I just had a "Zen moment" - thanks Ken Carlin!@arjenfsx:Did you learn something?

Oh, one other thing .....I can feel a rant coming on :-) ....As my FS98 video shows, waiting around for new hardware may not be be the best advice for the uninitiated. The new hardware coming down the pipe is probably going to bring some fundamental changes to how we use our FSX config file. So, until there's another Bojote out there to work out the kinks for us the new hardware maybe a nightmare for some.

You know, I don't even know what a Zen is, but I do get that "Zen" response alot.

Yes, I learnt that even with the best hardware, FSX is not gonna get entirely smooth. And yes, FSX is at fault, it's getting too old. It's getting problems with newer hardware. Same for Ken with FS 98 on 5GHz. The game is too old, it doesn't know how to handle this new hardware. Same for FSX now. I've read stories with people having an i7 3960X, and running FSX at only 10 fps with a tweaked FSX.cfg. And the rest of their system was on top of the notch also.So basically, even Word Not Allowed, with his monster system can't run FSX without stutters (although he's having great FPS). But this is something I don't understand. How did this guy do this? So this means getting FSX 100% smooth, is possible. But how? I hope that with a GTX 580 and with some good CL7 RAM, I'm gonna get similar results. CL7 RAM won't to much to FPS, but I read that it can reduce stutters quite significantly.

That guy wasn't running NGX!!!!!!!!If I run 40fps locked, without some heavy scenery and NGX, I get that.

Well, when I fly the default Learget 45 at 500 KTS, I can only get similar results when I get above 60 fps (above monitor refresh rate). But with 40 fps locked, I get by far not that result. So here comes the question again. Which of my hardware is causing this? I myself, think that it's the RAM, the CAS latency is not tight enough...

Arjen Vandervelde

Well then, just get the CL7/1600 and GTX580 and you will have the best it can get. Even more, OC your CPU to 4.8, or even 5.0 if able and then there is going to be no reason on the hardware side.Did you test the situation I sent you? I just did that situation in 30, 40 and 60 fps. I could only see that what I call "FPS-stutter", meaning below 60fps, not a perfect smooth experience, but still, no "other" stutters.
