Aircraft Lighting

Recommended Posts

I was wondering in what order do I put my aircraft lights on. I know Landing Lights come on when I turn onto the runway and comeoff above the 10000' mark.

For takeoff in daylight, I use stobes, landing light, wing light, and I use position lights. - This applies to jets only.

Aircraft NAV lights (the red and green ones on the wings) should be on at all timesStrobes should be on once you line up, and then can be turned off after landing regardless of day or nightLanding lights on below 10,000. Turn them ON at the same time as strobes, and turn them off as soon as you have left the runwayTaxi lights should be on after pushback and turn them off once you turn the landing lights on.Tail light, I am not sure, but leave it on at night.Runway turnoff lights, I dont really use. This is how I do it, so everyone else has different methods.

Excellent list by flyerboy above.I would just add the beacon, if available, come's on just before engine start and goes off just after engine stop.Cheers,- jahman.

FAA calls these "position lights" and all three (left, right, rear) are operated together.Required from sunset to sunrise.Note also there are requirements for aircraft at anchor/moored.scott s..
