Living World cfg

Featured Replies

Found a strange new problem - possibly caused by attempting to remove MIdway 1942 mission files. "Living World settings are invalid. Delete LWcfg.xml from your hidden user profile directory".First off, what is this xml file ?Second : What is this "hidden user profile directory", and where is it ?Since then, my aircraft do not display in the startup window, and I cannot get any views except the 2D panel.I am attempting to repair FSX from the installation disc, but am wondering how to do that since I have Acceleration also installed. Do I need to use the Acceleration disc to repair FSX ?Thanks for any advice.EDIT: Searching this forum (should have done first) for this subject and found lots of references. Obviously a somewhat common problem. Will still try (as someone suggested) to remove Acceleration first and see if that helps.Did a search for this xml file (searching hidden folders) and could not find it.

Never mind - I just restored a backup of FSX and it solved the problem.Would still like to know that this LWcfg.xml file is. If you are being told to delete the file in the error message, does that mean it is not really needed, or is it remade when you load FSX again, like a deleted fsx.cfg file ?

By default, there is installed LWcfg.spb (spb is sim props binary, just a compressed version of xml). You can convert the spb into xml for editing by a little utility, spb2xml from here:http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/spb2xml2.zipThe sdk offers a utility to go the other way. AFAIK, you can just replace the spb with an xml format and the living world stuff will work. the sdk explains what's in the living world filehttp://msdn.microsof...y/cc526977.aspxscott s..
