Weather radar

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried the new Common weather radar? And if so, what do you think about it and how does it compare to Reality XP's weather radar?

Haven't tried it, and probably won't. It shows cloud densities, when it should be showing precipitation only. That's what radar is for. When you see a red echo, it means keep away.Eytan

Hi!Me is the author of the CWR gauge and i try to make an objective comparison between the Reality XP and the CWR gauge. The main difference is in the reality, the price and the complexity of use.The reality XP gauge is a very realistic simulation of small aircrafts weather radar gauges. It figures out the detailed cloud/precipiation bordes and display their intensity on the screen. Many real parmaeters can be adjusted. So at all a very very good solution for a real weather radar. If you are reality fanatic, then of course buy the Reality XP gauge, you would not be happy with the CWR.The CWR is different. It is not as realistic as the Relaity XP, because it shows you not the exact cloud/precip positions. It displays the clouds type & density at your altitude for all weather stations in your area. The precipiation display wil come with next update mid of April. But anyway it will also display for a weather station only. But this easier method of weath radar display is much more easier to use and develop, and so itis very low priced. For me is low price very relevant because of one fact you should think about - Imagine, how oftendo you fly in very bad weahter & precipiation conditions? When you fly with real weather, itwill be once of 15 flights. So weather radar is important to have, but ca not be used very often. An I would not pay more than 30 USD for a gauge really needed once in 15 flights. So if you want a easy and cheap solution, buy the CWRIn the point of flexibility, i think both are able to be included into any panel. There is also a comparison/review in work, check www.simflyer.net kind regardsflorian

FlorianThank-you very much for your honest and objective description of your product. You are right about the number of times I fly in bad weather. I always use real world weather and the majority of the flights are in good weather. I am primarily interested in the precipitation display as opposed to cloud display. I think I'll wait until that feature is included in your software. Thanks again for your honesty and I hope your product is a financial sucess.Bob
