Tower view in Fs2004

Featured Replies

Howdie,Can anyone help me to try and resolve a small problem... Remember back when you used Fsnavigator with FS2002, there was the ability to set the tower view and within that to specify height etc.Does anyone know if there is a similar program that will achieve the same result for Fs2004? I have tried using active camera and fs camera, but the results were not what i am looking for.If anyone can offer advice or suggestions then it would be very much appreciated.RgdsAidihttp://www.vfr-flightcenter.com/avsim_sig.jpg

Generally, I don't think the proper tower view is set for any of the airports in FS2004. You can set the tower view with AFCAD221+ or use the BGLCOMP_SDK to make a small file that sets the tower view position.W. Sieffert

From default map view, drag the Tower icon to wherever you want it, then set the view height from there. You can also do this in FSNavigator, but you have to be in slew mode first.Allcott

I've been working with using FDSConnection for my planned FS2004 upgrade to Autoland 2002. I haven't looked whether one can write the Tower Location Variables, but if one can I may be able to throw together a small utility that can set it to one of four possibilities:Aircraft LocationAircraft AltitudeAircraft Location and AltitudeUser Defined location and Altitude...I'm just visualizing as I write, and can't even say whether this state data can be written to. If I can do it, the interface would be via an external program that you'd have to task switch to. Probably would take me no more than an hour to write the code assuming I can get to these variables...-John

Hi Guys,Thanks for your responses. Allcot, Well they say you learn something new everyday! Never knew you could drag and drop the tower from mapview, quite a groovy feature and is pretty much does exactly what i have trying to achieve (screenshots for reviews) John, A small utility to achieve this would be just amazing! I think you have listed all the required prameters already. Would be way cool if you took this on and see if something comes of it. Would be even better if it could see the airport database and you could select the tower from a ICAO code or even name.I'll use Allcot's suggestion for the time being, but if you do decide to give this app a go John, then pls keep me informed.RgdsAidihttp://www.vfr-flightcenter.com/avsim_sig.jpg

You could drag tower view in FS2002 Aidi ;-)The drawback with FS9 is that you can't complete a flight and then drag the tower view to watch your landing like you could in FS2k2 and this infuriates me.I like to take screen shots of my flights and some of the best shots are take offs and landings. However if you drag the tower view after completing a flight and then run your captured flight video the tower view reverts to where MSFS put it, at your departure airport, or at the very least at an altitude of zero feet!Even creating a tower view in AFCAD2 does not correct this. Why or how MS managed to screw this up I don't know, and even worse I know wwe won't get a patch for it.

Hi Vulcan, Before you posted your reply I had been playing around with dragging the tower and setting the altitude for various flights. I am not sure what you might be doing wrong, but I dont have any problems starting the sim with the tower set where i take off from, completing the flight, then going to map view and moving the tower the airport i have just flown to. Once i have done that, i use the instant repley and the tower is at the destination airport so i can view my landing or what ever i am doing.I have found that you have to be very careful NOT to move the aircraft icon, or you will ruin everything you have just done and you will reset the situation.Might be worth giving it another shot and seeing if you can also make it work.RgdsAidi

As follow-up on my post, it appears the offsets for writing tower location and altitude, which were available in FS2002, aren't available any longer.... It's a pity, as it would have been something I would have enjoyed--I was envisioning setting up the tower location for fly by views and the like. I may still do this for fans of FS2002, since I keep both sims on my system...-John
