Hi,Recently i bought FS2004, but my fsp aren't to good. Airports like EHAM/EGLL with full AI traffic I get 5.2fsp. So this means I will not be flying at EHAM or EGLL. Canyone help me to make fs2004 faster.I have a:P4-1.8MhzASUS P4PE MotherboardGeforce fx5200512mb mem.Thinking to upgrade to a 800kb cache P4 2.8Mhz will this make any change for FS2004.Regards,L.Jim

I'm sure a faster processor would help. But in the meantime, Have you tried turning down the AI? In fact, I'd turn it off, then fly around EHAM/EGLL, and check the frame rate. Now you have a number to aim at. Do the same with autogen if you have that enabled. R-

Oke well i still don't really know what to do :SI am able to buy a 2.8mhz 800kb cache

If they have 100% AI, they have a lot of other stuff turned down. I am not aware of any currently available hardware that will run FS9 with ALL sliders maxed. Also, IIRC, the 5200 is not one of the better cards for FS9 BUT I may be wrong on that. I know the 5900 is good but I'm not sure if it's the 5200 or the 5600 that still has issues. I know that the new 5465(?) drivers from nVidia don't help the 5200 either. If you beef up your cpu you WILL get a big boost but if you want great clouds, highest detail and full AI - it ain't gonna happen.Just MHO,VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

This is a post which baffles me, only because of all that's left out of it. System specs only tell half the story when it comes to reporting fps issues. For instance, I can get 14-16 fps with full AI at EHAM on a less capable system--far less capable, since it's only an 800MHZ machine. But I do know that cpu speed does improve fps, as Chris Willis and I have (or had) nearly identical specs except for cpu, and he's mirrored some of my scenarios and has achieved performance in line with his CPU speed. So what am I trying to say/ask? Under what scenario are you getting 5fps? AI is maxed, but what else? Do you have full reflections, full water reflections, dynamic weather, and an extreme cloud draw distance? Are you trying to run at a sceeen res 1600x1200?I've had to make many concessions for a slow system, but FS2004 is all I fly now although I still have FS2002 on my system. Here's a list of what I've done to improve fps:~I run at a screenres of 800x600. That's good for several fps on my system. -I don't use dynamic or real weather. Adding cloud layers (other than cirrus) really bogs down performance in the sim. But I can have one or two layers of 3/8ths cumulus or stratus + a cirrus layer with no more than a 2-3 fps loss in performance. -I don't use autogen when intending to fly anywhere beyond 1000-2000ft AGL. When I do use it, I have the XML objects turned off. But mostly I don't find it realistic, especially when I am flying in areas I know.-My cloud draw distance is limited to 30 miles, but it's also 100 pct 3-d and maxed coverage-I've added Chris's cloud updates for performance. They really do help (although I've opted for the 32-bit variants)-I don't fly with shadows enabled, or water reflections enabled. I will enable water reflections when I'm trying to grab that great screenshot, but 90 pct. of the time I prefer the better performance and even the realism of the water w/o reflections-I close non-essential parts of multiple part panels when flying in 2-d mode. As an example, a panel with an overhead bank of switches. By leaving only the essential portion of the panel open, I can gain 2-3 fps for each panel piece I remove.-I don't fly with the gps window active. It reduces performance. These are "YMMV" (Your mileage may vary) suggestions. They work for my slower system, and I still have a beautiful result. Here's a link to my last group of shots (although AI was disabled). My fps was above 25 for every one of 'em...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...mesg_id=122878&

Hey changin to a 2.8 processor will help you.I have exactly what you have. G-Force FX 5200 512 ram the only diffrence is that i have a P4 2.8 HT.The only airport that I get low FPS is in O'Hare with full atc also if you unselect "shadows" in display it helps out alot.It did for me.Good luck. Konrad

The point of my post Konrad was why should the user adjust upgrade the cpu, when the sim is so easily configured around a system. If a user can't get 20fps with most settings high on a machine twice the speed of mine, then something isn't right with their setup.-John
