March 29, 200422 yr Yes tanks were full. I just took off and climed to 500ft agl (~800ft MSL) and leveled off. I waited a few minutes and it slowly crept up to 80mph.When you say they averaged 120mph, back then they had no way to knowing ground speed. I'm sure they got that figure by using a stopwatch and timing themselves from takeoff to landing. Knowing the distance they flew, they got a figure of 120mph.
March 29, 200422 yr Author Jim:Interesting....Can you climb to 2000 MSL and see what max speed you can achieve on full tanks ?The 120 mph average speed was based on flying 1980 statue miles in 16 hours 12 minutes as reported in the NY Times of June 16, 1919.Cheers! for tonight.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
