March 17, 201214 yr Considering purchasing and would use the button version. But I have a couple of questions.1.Looking at Julio's excellent flow chart, I'm a bit daunted. For example, I've never bothered to do accurate fuel consumption calcs using winds aloft, TAS, etc as I find that sort of thing a bit boring, quite honestly. I use a "rule of thumb" for fuel quantity that has served me well on the NGX flights I have done which is 10% per 100Nm + an overall 15% to cover diverts, holds, taxi etc. Will FS2Crew let me get away with this or will the F/O insist that I do it properly? 2. I use Radar Contact which is also button activated. Can FS2Crew be configured to avoid conflict with RC's buttons?Iain Smith
March 17, 201214 yr Hi Iain,First of all let me just say BUY IT. You will never look back and it completes the NGX. Now let me answer your questions.1. The chart is a bit daunting at first but just break it down into sections and it will become second nature. With regards to fuel, FS2Crew does not care about how you calculate the fuel, it does not even care if you have enough (that will be the NGX when the engines stop and you start dropping from the air). As long as you make sure you have enough fuel for the trip then you will be ok.2. Although FS2Crew is called a button version there are only 2 buttons to assign. You assign these in the FSX controls menu and these can be any keys you want. If you want you can assign these to joystick buttons which make it alot easier.FS2Crew comes in a bundled package with the voice version so you can use that one instead, although you will not be able to use Radar Contact by voice. If you want ATC by voice then you could use VOX ATC X.
March 17, 201214 yr Author Hi Craig,Thanks for your very full answer. I shall use the button version as I don't particularly want to talk to my computer.Anyway, you've convinced me. I will buy it!Iain
March 17, 201214 yr Hi Iain,I use the button version because I feel very strange talking to my computer, but it is very easy to set up. I found it easier when I first started using FS2Crew to print out the flows, loading up FSX, working on getting one section in my mind first. The starting again and keep adding. It is very easy to use and the manuals are very good. If you get stuck there is always help on the forum.
