Quick Question for Full License Windows 7 Users... (NOT OEM!)

Featured Replies

Hi guys.So on my new build I decided to go with the full license of Windows 7 instead of the OEM because I might as well upgrade parts later and I didn't want to rebuy Windows.Every 6 months to 1 year I like to do a "fresh up" on my computer, meaning I reinstall Windows (or on my old Dell, "Restore to Factory Settings") to start fresh and clean. How do I do this on my custom build computer? Do I just save all my stuff then restart the computer with the Windows 7 disc inside of it then delete the partition? Thanks.

That's for OEM, Jim.
The first sentence says, "If you have a retail Windows 7 Setup disc, you can easily wipe out your PC and start over again with a clean install of Windows 7 at any time." Then he talks about Windows 7 coming with your new computer (OEM).

Well that doesn't really help.Oh well, I'm guessing I was right.

By that quote, I assume you are referring to your OP where you asked, "do I just save all my stuff then restart the computer with the Windows 7 disc inside of it then delete the partition?" If so, you are correct. That's the proper way to do it with a retail version of Windows 7. You'll have to change your bios to make the DVD drive your boot drive first. I did a Google search for you using the following text "how do you do a fresh install of Windows 7". Google provided me with several links but I found the following link the best - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/windows-7-clean-install-part-1.htm. Personally I don't think it is necessary for you to have to do this every 6 months or so but it's your computer. Reinstalling the OS takes time and reinstalling FSX afterwards takes even more time. Good luck!Best regards,Jim

Hi Jim, that answered it. Thanks so much! Yeah, I don't usually do it every 6 months, usually 1 year or whenever I feel that my computer is becoming kinda sluggish. Thanks again!

Basically, you would insert the disc, boot into it via a boot menu, then select the drive you want to install on and format it. Then install Windows and enjoy. :(
