March 27, 201214 yr Hi,My brother and I just purchased new computers, both with Windows 7. When my brother tried to connect to the multiplayer session in FS9, he could not connect. I do have a router and he is able to connect to the Internet but he cannot connect to the multiplayer. It worked just fine on our older computers running Windows Xp. What things do I need to check to determine the cause?Ken.
March 28, 201214 yr Hello Ken...I am surprised... ...!One of the many things I love about FS 2004, (compared to FSX) is our ability, and ease of connectiong to the FS Host Server for all our Multiplayer flights...!http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/Normally its just a click onto to Multiplayer in the drop-down Menu, type in the Server's address...and Join! All my Multiplayer mates, (and me), have no problems whatsoever every day!Give us some more details with your particulator problem!..... :( ...!Paul...FS 2004 + FS Navigator.... :(
March 28, 201214 yr Author Hi Paul,That's exactly what my brother did. He says that my IP or servier address will not show up and he will not be able to join until the IP address shows up. Remember we're using a wireless router. Everything worked fine in Windows Xp. Now that we're running Windows 7, that's when the problem started. But he has no problem connecting to the Internet. So, it seems to me that there are some settings I must make with my router or it's Windows 7. That's the best I can explain it.Ken.
March 28, 201214 yr Hello Ken... :( ...!I am using Windows 7, 32 bit, Home Edition...no problems. To avoid any possible "Router" problems/difficulties, "Ports", etc, especially with Multiplayer, I always use a simple, USB, Wired Modem...never a Router!Never had any problems with this arrangement, using any of the the FS 2002/FS 2004, (and FSX), Flight Sims, and FS Navigator..I get an instant Multiplayer connection every time from the drop-down Menu, using FS Host, with both the Sim, and FS Nav..!I hope you can get it sorted....we need more Multiplayer Pilots!.... :( ...!Let us know how you get on...Paul....FS 2004...FS Navigator...and a big bag of Cholcolate Cookies... :( ...!P.S...I assume you are (both) typing in a recognised IP Address...eg...>>> 203.114.130.15 followed by "Search". when the search is successful...then "Join"..!
March 29, 201214 yr Author Hi Paul,Thanks for your post. I was going to ask you what Operating system you are running. You say you're running Windows 7 32 bit. My brother and I are running WIndows 7 64 bit version. I don't think this is the problem. Anyway, I called support for my router and here's what they told me. They said that I would have to contact their third party support and from what I gather, adjustments for the Windows 7 Network and Sharing will have to be made. This would have to be done on both computers and they wanted to charge me $69.00 to make it work. I told them that I'm not paying that much just to make these adjustments. Then they said they would help me for $59.00. I think this is just there way of making money and this whole operating system was purposely designed that way. I should not have to pay anything to get our multiplayer working and there's nothing wrong with the multiplayer system. I think it's all in the way Windows 7 64 bit is setup.I don't understand how a USB wired modem would work. Did you mean USB wireless modem? Remember the other computer is upstairs. I never heard of FS Host and I'm going to check that out. It might be better than going through the router. I'll keep you informed.Ken.
March 29, 201214 yr Author Hi Paul,I found the problem. First of all, my brother's computer came with a trial version of Norton's Internet Secuirty. He un-installed it but it still was not the problem. Then I checked my router's IP and my computer's IP to be sure they were the same. The problem was the IP address had to have 2 zeres added at the end when typing the IP in Flight Simulator. So, it's working fine now. Ken.
March 29, 201214 yr Wonderful news, Ken... :( ...!Now that you are successful, dont forget to download and install; "FS Host Spy" from Chocolate Software..>>> http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/When you have installed it, pop a "shortcut" to it on your desktop. When you click on it, it will list all the FS Host servers, and their IP Addresses, who are on line, for you to join! The whole FS Multiplayer world is at your service!I selected the Windows 7 32-bit version, (following Windows XP) to ensure its campatibility with all my very old software!..and as my computer is the only one in my house, I dont need a Modem+Router. I just use a simple, cheap, external, ADSL wired Modem which I plug into my USB Port, and my Phone line. This means that I dont have any; "Port address" problems when using on-line Multiplayer, (All Router Ports must be opened!).If you wish to play on-line with your brother, just arrange to select the same IP Address from the FS Host Spy list, and you are away with one of the Servers...(and anyone else who is on there at the time!)... :( ...!Maybe I will meet you both, up in the; clear-blue!... B) ...!Take care...Paul...FS 2004...FS Navigator... G-BPLF... :( ....!
