March 28, 201214 yr Having a problem with the W/FT CRJ planes. During the approach (with approach armed) all is fine. As soon as the LOC is captured the aircraft begins a nosedive. It cannot hold the present altitude until GS intercept. Seems that support for this payware has gone away. Have read the docs and searched the internet for some clues but came up empty. March 28, 201214 yr Joe,I'm sure others will also post with solutions, but meanwhile, let me offer a process solution. What I do is divide intercepting the localizer from the glideslope. First, tune the ILS frequency on Nav 1 radio. Then, while being vectored to intercept the localizer, I'm using the Heading switch. When I'm on the final heading to intercept the localizer, I hit the NAV switch, which arms the LOC (you can see that in the primary flight display). Keep in mind that I'm also at the expected altitude to intercept the glideslope, which is normally below the glideslope. The airplane will intercept the LOC and follow it. At that point, I start looking for the glideslope to become active, the indicator starts moving down on the display. I hit the APR switch as the glideslope indicator is about a notch above the intercept point. The aircraft is supposed to first arm the GS then make it active. Keep in mind my speed is also slow enough for that point. Hope this helps. March 28, 201214 yr Author SAX702,Thanks for that info. I will try that on the CRJ. I am used to being able to arm the approach using the "APP" switch. However with this aircraft that does not seem to work, so I will give your method a try. Regards, Joe Esposito
March 28, 201214 yr I fly the Wilco/feelThere CRJ-700 pretty frequently. I love that plane. I haven't run into the problem being described here, even in some fairly adverse weather conditions, but I don't fly with the Wilco/feelThere panel, either, so I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem. the Wilco panel, for me, was far, far too complex. I'm not a pilot IRL and never will be, and there was no way I was going to spend the time it would've taken to learn even how to program the FMC correctly. Therefore, I use the same panel (by Ken Mitchell) that I use for the default FS9 Lear 45. For me, flying wiht that panel, the CRJ-700 tracks both localizer and glideslope as well or better than any other aircraft I fly.
March 28, 201214 yr Author SAX702,Your suggestion did the trick! Using the method you outlined I was able to make a flawless transition from a vectored intercept heading onto the localiser and glide path. Thanks again! Regards, Joe Esposito
