April 2, 201214 yr many of us has tried it and enjoy it and what it can offer, the best way to look at P3D is.. it uses the same ground textures as fsx and shares some of the same stock aircraft as fsx but it is missing a few things like real world weather and a front end UI like fsx, performance is on par with fsx but some people find it performs better and others dont.I dont believe you will be able to use the NGX even though some people have it fully working.. its just the developer has said no from what ive seen other people post and you wont be able to use vatsim as well from what i have seen even though P3D has multi-player features. As all addon installers made for fsx will need fsx to install so a lot of process of getting aircraft/scenery to work is done manually and it can be time consuming. -Paul-
April 2, 201214 yr If the $50 is ok with you then install it. It is based on FSX as we know it today. It seems that there will be changes and improvements as Lockheed Martin moves the product forward. It is very unlikely that it will be made "gamelike" as other products have done to gain revenue to survive. The intent is to make the program into a simulator for training purposes. By involving the FSX community the vendor gains the virtual flying experiences of the FSX users as well as their operational suggestions for a smoothly operating product. Those experiences may not be forthcoming from the target schools and instructor community. Smart move. Also, as of now there is a close dialog with Lockheed personnel. Problem reporting with solutions or good suggestions are flourishing. These attributes were somewhat available in the waning days of FSX/Microsoft but right now participation amongst the customer community and Lockheed Martin is very good. This means that "mature" (not angry) FSX users actually can contribute to the product. As to Prepare3ds functionality check out the forums and spend $50. I personally see no need for me to use FSX anymore but not all FSX functionality is presently there. regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
