April 14, 201214 yr On approach to KBDL today with the J41, I captured the localizer and glideslope without any trouble, but as I neared the airport, the aircraft seemed to lose the glideslope and start climbing and descending to get back on course, eventually pretty much overshooting the runway. What might have caused this? (intercepting 100' below the g/s intercept altitude wouldn't do that, would it?) Thanks, boeing247 -Bram Osterhout
April 14, 201214 yr You need to disconnect the autopilot at 50 feet (or is it 200?). The J41 is not capable of autolanding. The FMS is not that precise. Intercepting the g/s should happen at any altitude. But if the intercept altitude is 4,000 intercept at 4,000. That way terrain clearance is adhered to. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
April 14, 201214 yr Author Okay, thanks. I think it was about 150-200 feet when the autopilot went loopy. I guess I'm going to have to actually fly the plane! -Bram Osterhout
April 14, 201214 yr The first time I tried flying her, I was flying into KIAD (or the tutorial's destination) and landed short by quite a lot. You're not the only one. Handflying (a.k.a gliding after destroying both engines...) is a dream. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
