Flaps - could someone kindly explain something
You need to manually reset the dial-a-flap seletor to 15. Yes. Unless you are returning to the airport after takeoff, those speed bugs are just there to inform you of maximum airspeeds. The trim settings in the FMS (barring incorrect numbers by you) are accurate. If you takeoff at low weights, the MD-11 is a very powerful machine and will require a high nose-up attitude to maintain airspeed.

United to Retire all 747s by 2018
You loose an engine on a BA 744 and you'll be swimming in the Atlantic. Refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airways_Flight_268 Four engines does not necessairly mean safer. No it was political. The contest for a replacement of the VC-25 was the Boeing 747-8 and the Airbus A380. Boeing won the order. Why would the President of the United States of America fly on an aircraft manufactured by a French-based company?

You mind posting a link to the thread where Kyle says that so we can read it in context?

Who said they were producing the 787 and 737MAX?

How do I contact Robert privately?
Dang it, now I wanna call Jenny. I don't think Robert is in Nevada any more.

Autoland question
Never a truer word spoken.
-
Dumb question, haven't flown it for a while.
The airspeed indicator should read 45 knots while on the ground and below 45 knots. It should increase when above 45 knots.

Pitch Autotrim
Well, preflighting an Airbus is pretty much entering FMS data and pressing all the buttons with white lights. It's so simple you can train a monkey to do it,

Flapless landing after 3 go-arounds in the worst weather sat 25 july
Not delaying/cancelling/diverting the flight, 3 go-arounds, and getting themselves into a situation where they may have run out of fuel. Hardly deserving of compliments. More deserving of 2 pink slips.

I would've thought that Texas didn't celebrate the 4th of July.

I stand corrected. I didn't know they changed things up.

Re Installation and order and key
A hard lesson to learn about keeping a backup on another hard drive or DVD. To obtain a new copy, submit a ticket to support.precisionmanuals.com. You may need to buy the extended download service though. You only need your email address, ecommerce account password, and order number. You will input that right after you start the installer.

Selection on IGN
Delta's policy is the ignition switch is set to L for the captain's leg and R for the first officer's leg. Also the ignition switch is set to R for the first flight of the day (after midnight local time) to ensure the ignition is powered by standby power.

Trim cutout on Control Stand
The quick action index permit the crew to immediately locate checklists that require immediate attention. Basically, instead of flipping through 300 pages of checklists for the SMOKE, FIRE OR FUMES checklist, they can go to that index and see that it is on page X.X. There are a few checklists in the QRH that may be applicable to using the STAB CUTOUT switches.

I'd love to keep my hots for the MD11 @ X-Plane
The MD-11 just didn't sell enough and there isn't a lot of demand for this bird unfortunately. If you were running a business, would you make a decision that wouldn't make you money?

Autothrottles don't disconnect
50 knots? If I remember right, the MD-11 will automatically increase thrust to keep the airplane from developing a stall.

[31DEC14] A little something for the New Year...
They can't find the performance numbers for the domestic -400. See this discussion: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/458937-747-v2-engines/

[31DEC14] A little something for the New Year...
Hm, let's see. Never seen a BA 744 with a main deck cargo door. The only -400ER operator is Qantas. Through the process of elimination we are down to the base -400. Insert sarcasm smile here.
