Hello all, how do you think this would work with FSX ?

Thinking of setting up a combat sim on a Flyseat with CH stick and throttle and using the personal sony as display.

I think this could be a great tool for flight simmers as the activity is mostly "personal"!

Any drawbacks I'm not seeing?

thanx,

Luca

Display Resolution : 1280x720

too low maybe?

I guess if the resolution is good, in a combo with the TrackIR, this would be the ideal solution.

Drawbacks? Yeah...you don't see the keyboard. And you need it often.

Touchtyping?

Thx guys, if I do a good programming of the commands on joystick and throttle would I need the keyboard that much?

And are you sure the Track IR is necessary? Wouldn't the HMZT have the capabilty to work without ?

Cheers,

Luca

Touchtyping?

Yeah, sure... in the heat of the flight, FMC, single keys solo typing, flat keyboards... Impossible.

Sure you could. But even if that, you still have too many commands missing.

I have some hardware, including my G13, and I still need the keyboard. Besides how do you want to type into FMC with a joystick. And sure, if you are not using it and flying simple aircraft without much electronic, you might get away with it. You might even get away with the aircraft that have everything clickable in the VC, like NGX... still quite annoying without the keyboard, especially if you are using EZCA or such tools.

Then you have to alt+tab if you are flying online, possibly having a laptop for Squawkbox and Flightplanners... do I need to count on?

TrackIR - yes, the Sony doesn't have a look around feature. It's fixed on your head, and if you turn your head, nothing is turning on the screen. There is no point of reference on the outside or the motion sensor.

You need to activate the mouse by a keyboard, or a middle mouse button.

This would be much better IMO:

I tell you what would be good. If they put IR sensors on your hands like gloves, and the show up in the game so you can go around and program the FMC, flick switches. the only problem would be calibrating it all I guess.
