Cannot install fsx on my E drive; installer keeps changing it to C

Featured Replies

Hi!

Because i wanted to try the new 737 turorial, i needed to install fsx.

I want to install fsx on my E: drive. So i changed the path during the installation to E:/program files (x86)/microsoft games/fsx. But for some reason, the installer ignores the directory i want to use, and puts it into C:/program files (x86) (etc).

What i think is the reason for this, is that i had fsx installed on my C drive about a year ago. So I removed every mention of 'fsx' from my registry using a registry cleaner. I also removed the folders in application data regarding FSX. So there is nothing on my C drive containing old stuff about my old FSX installation. But the installer still keeps installing it on my c drive.

I also tried to run the installer with admin rights, but that didnt help either.

There is a microsoft games folder created on my e drive, but that only contains a "fonts" folder. Aftr that, the installer installa everying on c:/program files (x86)/microsoft games/fsx.

Is there something i could to to make it work on my E: drive? (it needs to be E because C is an SSD with very limited space available.)

I use windows 7 64 bit. And fsx used to run perfectly on it, so that is not the issue, i think.

Sounds strange. Have you tried to install the game to completely diffrent path in E-drive/partition, like E:\Games\FSX? Does everything else work correctly in E? Do you have same file system in both drives and E-drive/partion is formatted correctly?

I will try that tonight. Everything else is working fine on the E-drive. I have several other programs installed on it.

If you know other things i could try, please tell. Becaus i think it will end in a reinstall of windows..

I just tried to install it in E:/games. But still, it keeps changing it to C:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Does anybody else have any idea on how to fix this? It's driving me insane... The C: drive doesn't even have enough space at the moment.

Does anybody else have any idea on how to fix this?

Go into Computer Management and look at your disk drives and make sure they are "seen", are healthy, and are not reserved for other system resources. Click on the Start button and in the search bar type Computer Management then look up in the menu and click on Computer Management. You should also go into the Device Manager and make sure all the HDD's are properly installed.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim, thanks for your help. The drives are all seen and healthy.

But i think (the installer is currently running) i have fixed it.

I found this fix-it, from Microsoft itself: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/en

It detected some old files with regards to my old FSX installation, and got rid of it. Which was exactly what I thought it would be the issue.

I'm quite happy at the moment.

Thanks guys!
