April 16, 201214 yr So time has come for me to upgrade my video card on my system (i5-750 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR3, 1TB SATA II, DVDRW, NVIDIA GeForce GTS250 1GB, 700W PSU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) And i was looking to just do something in the $150-$200 Dollar range. This led me to looking at the GTX 560 ti or a 550 but I'm pretty set on going with the 560. What are your guys thoughts on the card below? i have another $20 promo i can use and get it for $169, its a 2gig 560 Superclocked...how do you think this will run FSX? Does anyone have experience with this card? http://www.tigerdire...5358&CatId=3669
April 17, 201214 yr As far as I understand you're looking into three different graphics cards: GTX 550, GTX 560 and GTX 560Ti. The GTX 550 and 560 are both quite slower than the GTX 560Ti. I recommend getting AT LEAST a GTX 560Ti for FSX. If you get a GTX 580, this won't increase performance at all compared to the GTX 560Ti. However, with the GTX 560Ti you cannot run high anti-aliasing and supersampling levels, in these cases a GTX 580 will be much quicker. But if you don't plan on running those high AA levels, a GTX 560Ti will do exactly the same as a GTX 580. And again, don't get a GTX 550 or 560 because they are significantly slower. So, my recommendation: get a GTX 560Ti. Brand shouldn't matter that much, however, EVGA is known to give good warranty. Arjen Vandervelde
April 17, 201214 yr I went with this one http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814127565 but it's also at tigerdirect as well http://www.tigerdire...1406&CatId=3669 Can't wait to get it!
April 17, 201214 yr This is getting silly. If that's your budget, get a GTX460 if you can find it cheaper, cause it's the same card as a GTX560. Just bump the clocks a tad and you have a 560. It can most definitely run 2x & 4x supersampling coupled with 8xS, and that's "decent levels of AA" no matter what anyone says. Actually it's more than enough. You didn't mention what resolution you're going to run, but you should be fine at 1920x1080, even 1200 However, if you're looking for performance this GPU upgrade may deceive you, cause in FSX you're most likely CPU limited with that 2.66 I5 750. You're best bet is to get a good cooler and overclock to some 3.6 - 4GHz
April 17, 201214 yr no matter what anyone says. Wow, you've really hit the jackpot here... I do agree on a silly part. It can most definitely run 2x & 4x supersampling coupled with 8xS, and that's "decent levels of AA" I will take from this sentance you mean Supersampling, and not Sparse Grid Supersampling. I will just disagree with this statement. Decent is something else. Normal SS is... let's say, poor man's land. Eventually you'll want Sparse Grid Supersampling. 560ti is the way to go if you have low budget. It won't cut through SGSS at best, but it's gonna work out. Now, I really don't want to mix up this "no matter what anyone says" any further, so I'll just post this and get out of harms way. At least I have some videos to support my opinions: (make sure you switch to 1080p in youtube and watch full screen) 4x Supersampling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txxoascd6SM&context=C4c61c1dADvjVQa1PpcFM6ufyVjH9VprzG5TE5xJiPwRoOOmkYgQ4= 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LX59cUrf3yE&context=C47dd2adADvjVQa1PpcFM6ufyVjH9VptpRiNWZUCYjf7HksfiGcO4=
April 17, 201214 yr I said supersampling because Arjen said supersampling. If you want to start talking about SGSS, then put a vid with 2xSGSS instead of 4x and let Ahmad decide if it's worth another 250 bucks because 4xSGSS is not something you run anyway. I know very well how nice 4xSGSS looks, I told you about it, remember? just like I got it from someone else, not pretending it was my discovery here, of course. Not to mention that you can probably run 2xSGSS on a mid range card in good weather with decent performance, so it's not like SGSS is a GTX580-680 exclusive thing. Well I'm not sure about this, it's been ages since I had that 460 and I don't even think I ever tested SGSS on that one, so I could be wrong. Whatever, people need to read and provide advice that is useful to the OP. He said in the $150-$200 Dollar range, and also suggest things that match the rest of his hardware. Do you honestly think a 2.66GHz is not going to bottleneck a high end GPU or even a 560Ti? What if he's not looking to improve IQ and he's looking for performance? that's what 99.9% of the people are looking for. If you ask a gamer if they would pay an extra $300 to have a little less AA they would **** slap you and walk away.
April 17, 201214 yr then put a vid with 2xSGSS instead of 4x I am sorry, it was my typing error. This video is a 2x SGSS, not 4x. I don't run 4x SGSS. I told you about it, remember? Yes, I do. That was thank to you. Do you honestly think a 2.66GHz is not going to bottleneck a high end GPU or even a 560Ti? I definitely think it will. But also depending what kind of IQ he is going to be running, something he has yet to learn apparently.
April 17, 201214 yr I think you didn't pick the best scenario to showcase SGSS. It's mainly autogen shimmering where it shines, and to be honest, 2x is not that impressive IMHO. I guess it's a matter of expectations. I want to clarify my remark about "decent IQ". Word Not Allowed, you where running 8xS + 2xSS before knowing about SGSS, just like me and many others. Does that mean that you and I were not having even decent IQ before that? It's just a matter of the words of choice, that's were I can't agree.
April 17, 201214 yr just like me and many others. Yep, and I hated it. Really hated it. I came from the times of Nhancer, before Nvidia changed the IQ on the 8xS, where looks were the pure beauty. Then Nvidia changed that, and since then I hated the looks... I was happy again when SGSS was discovered.

Well, I'm pretty sure if you make a poll asking which of those 2 vids looks better, most of the votes will go to "I can't tell the difference" BTW, what airport is that¿ looks really nice
April 17, 201214 yr "I can't tell the difference" Probably... -_- BTW, what airport is that¿ looks really nice AS LFMN.
April 18, 201214 yr I indeed see zero difference in those videos. I never really understood the obsession with AA and (SG)SS to be honest. I barely see a difference between regular FSX AA and NI AA, there is a difference, yes, but I don't pay much attention to it. The only thing that I see shimmering in my cockpits are the displays and FMC, can I solve this by using high levels of SGSS? And to return to the OP's question, with your budget, I highly recommend a GTX 560Ti. You can definately run some decent AA levels that gives you good quality. No, not 32xS and 4xSGSS, but 8xS and 4xSS should be no problem, and most of the people can't tell the difference anyway! Arjen Vandervelde
April 18, 201214 yr The only thing that I see shimmering in my cockpits are the displays and FMC, can I solve this by using high levels of SGSS? It does. Try it out Arjen. Problem is 2x just solves it partially, and 4x is too expensive in clouds And to return to the OP's question, with your budget, I highly recommend a GTX 560Ti. You can definately run some decent AA levels that gives you good quality. No, not 32xS and 4xSGSS, but 8xS and 4xSS should be no problem Again, a 560ti doesn't fit in his budget, and a 460 can also do 8xS + 4xSS
April 18, 201214 yr and most of the people can't tell the difference anyway! Yeah, they can't tell. Yet, how do you explain each every now and then a post complaining about shimmering in the FSX forums? I indeed see zero difference in those videos. Then you need :Nerd:, my friend.
April 18, 201214 yr Yeah, they can't tell. Yet, how do you explain each every now and then a post complaining about shimmering in the FSX forums? Then you need :Nerd:, my friend. I agree, in the cockpits I can tell the difference. But in scenery, as you showed in the videos, I really can't... Arjen Vandervelde
