April 17, 201214 yr Just read this TSB report: http://www.tsb.gc.ca...12/a11f0012.asp To sum it up, the First Officer took a controlled rest but didn't follow procedure to notify the head flight attendant, he overslept the allowed 40 minutes. He just woke up from his nap when TCAS picked up an opposite–direction United States Air Force Boeing C–17 at FL340 (1000' below). The Captain was monitoring the TCAS, The FO mistook the planet Venus for the C-17 aircraft coming at them from above. FO reacted by pushing the aircraft into a dive injuring 16 on board.
