Since I don't know if "round flight" is actually the term for the subject about which I am up to ask, I might better describe what I was planning to do ;-) . I built a nice FSNav flight plan from Auckland via McMurdo Field in Antarctica (no landing there, of course) in an attempt to recreate one of those sightseeing flights ANZ used to do until they lost a DC-10 in a crash at Mount Erebus. This flight was to begin and terminate at Auckland. Obviously, I filed this flight plan as IFR, but my suspicions that FS's ATC might not like this sort of flight plan were confirmed. After take-off, ATC vectored me right back to land on the same runway I had just departed from. I then built a slightly edited FP which terminated at Wellington instead, but here, too, ATC wanted to vector me in for landing once I was within 80-some miles from the airport.Maybe there's not a huge chance for it, but might there perhaps be a way around this problem, aside from merely hoping for this issue being addressed in FS2006? ;-) True, I could cancel IFR as soon as I were at altitude, but before I tackle this flight of mine in earnest I felt like I should put this question up for discussion :D .Cheers!

I don't know if it would work but maybe you could try your flight plan as is, but add another airport after the end of the plan near to the final proper one if there is one, if not, the nearest in any case, then ask ATC to change to land where you really want when you get near to it.

The ATC system is set up to vector you to destination at approx 90miles. You only option is to use VFR flights and then ask for flight following.I did many of these VFR flights when I was practicing my cross countries for my PPL.It is not simple for VFR either since you can't use departure and destination the same because you won't get a red line to stretch. What I did was use my departure airport and a nearby airport. Since I was coming back to the departure airport, it has a VOR located on the airport, so I used it as a waypoint prior to the stated destination airport. When I was returning, I just selected my real destination airport for landing and didn't go to the state destination airport.W. Sieffert

What you're describing is a "round-trip flight" and FS ATC does have problems with them. I suggest creating two different flight plans:1. A flightplan from Auckland to McMurdo to New York City. The landing airport doesn't have to be New York - it can be any airport far away from your route of flight. This prevents ATC from vectoring you near McMurdo.2. A separate flightplan from McMurdo to Auckland.Load up the first flightplan and fly to McMurdo. When you get close to McMurdo, Cancel IFR. When you're ready to return to Auckland, load the second flightplan (make sure NOT to reposition to the departure airport), contact ATC for your new clearance, and enjoy the return trip.Hope this helps,Marc
