May 4, 201214 yr Hey Guys, Was considering getting a second GTX 550 Ti for my rig in order to play FSX in Nvidea Surround Mode with 3 x 22" LED Monitors. My system specs are listed in my signature for your reference. Anyway I hear that when you set up 3 monitors, you can increase the resolution along the lines of something near 5090 x 1080. Now this is nearly five times the resolution of a normal Full HD monitor. Will this " increased resolution" have an effect on my FPS overall ? I mean typically speaking two graphics cards working together in synergy in SLI always results in significant performance increase with today's games But FSX being the inefficient, outdated technology that it is will not result in performance increases... but performance decreases with additional graphics cards. If you give FSX two hands , it will only make use of one of them. Anyway I'm just looking to see if getting Nvidea surround is really worth it... It will cost me over 400 euro more to complete the surround mode but will it just end up in 33 % less performance ? Am I paying a good deal of money for less performance or an enhanced experience? Or will the performance stay the same if I have the 3 monitors in 1920 x 1080. Will that even look normal ? I would appreciate feedback from simmers that have gone down this route before to tell me your experience, the advantages and disadvantages of 3D Surround. Thanks for reading.
May 5, 201214 yr I had nvidia surround with 2 gtx 580 and it worked well with high frame rates, the only thing to look out for is that when you have so many pixels to push and complex add-ons and repaints, the Vram usage becomes very very high, over the 1.5 gb of Vram on my 580s. So in a situation like San Francisco, where you have a wide screen monitor, two addon sceneries Flightbeam and Aerosoft San Fran, a complex add-on plane with high resolution textures, High definition REX clouds and an add-on weather engine making multiple cloud layers, you will probably hit your limit. Single screen FSX with the situation above should be okay or close depending on your level of AA.
