May 7, 201214 yr Currently I'm using a Core i7-920 o/c to 4 GHz but I'm thinking about upgrading to a Sandy Bridge based setup and was looking at the availiable CPUs and I've been looking at these in particular Intel Core i7-2600K $372 Intel Core i7-2700K $396 Intel Core i5-3570K (Unlocked) $297 Intel Core i7-3770K (Unlocked) $432 Would appreciate any pros/cons and your input guys what would be best bang for the bucks looking at the price/performance ratio. I will only use the computer for FSX. As for the GPU I'm currently using a GTX 480, not sure if it would be worth also upgrading this to maybe a 680...? That would of course be a rather huge additional cost but if it would do a big difference to the better in FSX I could justify it to myself considering how much time I spend flying. TIA,
May 7, 201214 yr Intel Core i7-2700K $396 An Intel Core i7 2700K OC + an EVGA GTX580 would be the best choice for the best FSX performance possible. Stay away from IB. - They run very hot and they don't OC nearly as high as a the SB lineup.
May 7, 201214 yr Author Ok, so are the Intel Core i5-3570K and the Intel Core i7-3770K IB CPUs you say or do you mean I should stay away from Ivy Bridge in general? Forgive my lacking knowledge of the latest generation PC architectures but all the CPUs mentioned in my initial post was listed when I choose socket 1155 which I though was a Sandy Bridge specific socket? Also, is there a special reason you suggest the GTX 580 over the 680?

Also, is there a special reason you suggest the GTX 580 over the 680? SandyBridge is a MUCH better overclocking series than Ivy Bridge. Also, the SandyBridge CPUs run much cooler than the Ivy Bridge CPUs. The GTX680 has shown to be equivalent to the GTX580 in FSX. The only reason I recommended the 580 rather than the 680 was purely less money spent. In conclusion, the best bang for buck at the moment is an Intel Core i7 2700K paired with a GTX580.
