Forcing Active Sky to Use My Weather Definition

Featured Replies

I just installed and am learning Active Sky 2012 for my FSX system. It appears that I am constrained by the product when it comes to specifying the weather i want to use for a sim session. In FSX I can download real-time weather if I want, but I can also specifically define the weather I want to simulate for my session (clear, storms building, active thunderstorms, fogged in, heavy snow).

So suppose I'm bored with flying in Active Sky's downloaded real-time summer weather and I want to try some winter flying. Or it's a cloudless day outside but I want to cope with some storms. Can I force Active Sky to simulate a winter environment, or any other weather options (winds of my own choice, clouds, precip, etc)? Rather than spend considerable time experimenting to see what's possible, I thought I'd ask here first. I can't find anything in the User's Guide or in previous forum posts that seem address my question.

Thanks, MH

Hello

Use these buttons to set up your own weather

You can set up weather types using the Edit Wx button

Or Find a specific weather type using the Find Wx button

Or even go back to a specific month/day Hour/Min using the Historical button

Sorry MD, I just haven't been able to find time to try it out. I have several other things demanding my time and I may be a few days getting to this. If you need to suspend/close this thread please do so and I'll contact you as soon as I have tried out your recommendation.

Hello

There's more to life than FSX ?.

I guess I need to get out more

Hmmm. Something happened and my reply didn't show up. Here goes again.

OK! I created my own weather for KRDU (see first screenshot). Please note that I am not a weather expert so my first attempt is clumsy.

I edited the Wx so I 'd have a broken cumulus cloud layer at 4500', moderate shear, no precip, surface wind from 195 deg at 16. Couldn't find a way to specify gusts (is there one?).

I assumed temps were in celsius so I converted temp of 80 deg F and dewpoint of 56 deg F to the celsius that you see in the screenshot (should be close - can you verify?).

I applied that weather, then clicked Map to see what I'd find, and the second screenshot seems to show considerable weather south and west of KRDU, weather that I would expect to be associated with precip. What did I do wrong? I didn't want rain.

Thanks, MH

Hello

I just tried the same settings, same result - rain.

All I can suggest is to raise a ticket at the support site.

Hopefully more users will add to this thread.
