May 6, 200422 yr Hi FolksJust wondered if anyone can suggest a good source for some night lighting textures for FS2004 which are significantly brighter than the default textures. Is it just me or are the default night lights way, way too dim? Thanks in advance.Kind regards, Andrew J Myers(EGNX)
May 6, 200422 yr Chris Willis has created a great replacement set. It's available here:http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenu2004.html
May 6, 200422 yr Very good file, also pick up a landclass file, freeware US landclass from fsgenesis.net for exampleit seems to force flight sim to display proper textures day and night for roads freeways etc.Add that landclass to the replacement night textures and its extremely beautiful
May 7, 200422 yr I've never had a problem with the airport lights, they seem just as dim as the ones at all the airports I've ever flown to in the real world. Hehe. Tri-Cities, WA (KPSC) isn't visible until well near it because of the surrounding city lights, and Pullman, WA (KPUW) or Deer Park, WA (KDEW) isn't all that visible from more than maybe 2 miles either. Really in the real world you're aiming for the rotating beacon to find it. About the time you're getting near the pattern entry is when you see most airfields lights. Runway lights are always dim even when classed as high intensity, and taxiway lights are even dimmer, approach lighting is really the only set of lights that are visibile from any distance.John S. May 7, 200422 yr There are actually 2 night-lights freeware products. Chris Willis' is one and there is another one whoes name I unfortunately forgot. You can find it in the Avsim library under FS2004. Both are very good and both are distinctively different. The other author also gives you much superior airport/runway lights. You can try them both and see which one is better for you. Opinions on the subject are divided.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
May 7, 200422 yr Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I like this night environment upgrade by Chris Arrington.FS2Night (Night Environment Upgrade) - FS2004 Texturesfs2night.zip
May 7, 200422 yr Hi, I use Chris Willis night light which I found very good at low and high altitude combination match texture with subtle looking most of the world based on generic Ms.BestEric
May 7, 200422 yr Yes, Chris Arrington - that's the name I forgot.I really like his runway lights - a different download.Michael J. Michael J.
May 11, 200422 yr Thanks for the advice folks.I downloaded both sets but used Chris Arrington's lights in the end and I think these are more realistic. Both sets could be a bit brighter especially at high altitude. Thanks again, Andy
