about wind direction and speed...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

well this may not be an ASE issue but why are my wind speeds off in my reality xp gns. They are good in fsx as you can see by the red lettering at the top (that one macthes the ASE value spot on).

I use DWC without "prevent cloud redraws", I have ticked "use additional stations" and "enhance route coverage". I also tried with and without the wind smoothing option in fiuspc but I still get the different reading regarding the wind speed in the gns.

Any help would be highly appreciated at this point. Thanks.

Hi Vonmar,

I don't know what I did but I don't have this problem anymore, everything is spot on...more or less.

I did make a change in the gns "ini" but now I can't remember what I changed and I'm not even sure that was the problem...?

Thank you, for now the problem is solved.

Well vonmar,

the things I did didn't solve anything!

It happened again, I have no clue why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...?

Anyway thanks again!

David,

It is hard to see what you see without some screenshots like in the link I posted above.

Maybe your PC cache is using old data ... did you reboot the PC between tests?

Are you using "saved" flights or testing with all new flights to different locations.

Did you check MSFS weather page to see what it says is going on?

Well I don't use saved flights, I usually

fire up the sim in the msfs default location and just pick one of my many ga aircraft with the rxp gns fitted to it and start testing. I normally test it at 3000 ft agl to see if I am getting the correct winds.

A couple of questions do come to mind...

"Do I need to restart ASE every time I make a change under the options tab?"

"Doesn't ASE overwrite the mfs weather settings regardless?"

I have those set to user-defined if it is relevant.

I don't use "prevent cloud redraws" option because I prefer accuracy, I don't use visibility smoothing, and my preferred mode is DWC. I do use fuispc wind smoothing (4 sec. for every knot).

What do you mean by "old cache"?

Thanks and sorry for bugging...
