Navigation help

Can anyone help, I'm trying to learn how to do an approach into an airport with a vor off field, with earlier a/c I've flown in fsx it is a simple case of using 2 vor's and setting the obs on each to app & catch the radial on the approach plate using the second vor's obs. Now I have upgraded to the quest kodiak with the g1000, as far ado can see I can only use nav 1 with obs, nav2 has no obs select ability ?. How therefore would I use the nav2 to know when I've reached a selected radial. John.

The VOR without the OBS should have an RMI needle displayed on an RMI display or as part of the HSI. The RMI will point towards that VOR. That will tell you where it is and thusly, what radial you are at.

Thanks for that kevinau, that will help. Is that not as accurate as the obs giving you a more visible check when the "D" bar centres?. I thought that the g1000 was more advanced. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks again though for your help... John

Although a vertically aligned deviation bar on an OBS is an easier thing to discern, an RMI is just as accurate as an OBS. As long as your eyesight is good enough to tell where the needle is relative to the degree marks on the outer ring.

The G1000 is more advanced. And the more advanced you get in aircraft, the less you will see of OBS's. The OBS is mainly found in entry level GA aircraft. Once you advance to more sophisticated airplanes, HSI's and RMIs are what you use. OBS's will be nowhere found.
