Information Required on Night Lighting Objects

Featured Replies

I have several new objects textured and ready to go for placement, however, it just occured to me that they have no night lighting and would be very effective with night lighting added.

I have no idea where to start and no idea if it is possible to add night lighting to these objects.

Can someone please direct me to information sources or what steps I need to take to get night lighting added to these objects?

thanks

Hi Bryan,

What tool did you use to make these objects? We would need to know that, to tell you how to add the night textures to the model.

And of course you need to make the night textures as well, but that's quite obvious.

Made with Google SketchUp. Converted using your Model Converter X and made into a library with Library Maker.

Hi,

In that case you need to go into the material editor in ModelConverterX. For each material that needs a night texture you can add it. It is adding to the "nightmap texture" slot. After that you export to MDL.

OK Arno....I did that exercise....and clicked on the "night render" which I presume shows what the object would look like in the dark?

It looks like the entire object becomes luminated, quite brightly...so it would show in the dark for sure. I will test out the exported model right now. What I working on is a series of ferries. So I was looking at luminating the windows and bridge etc. I would thing then that I might have to layer a texture over each window and only "nightmap" that particular texture if I only wanted all the window to light up.

So my test worked, I now have an extremely bright ferry that can be seen at night. Thanks for the lesson on how to do that.

So from here I need to see how I can not light up the entire object but just the windows and some exterior ambient lighting.

Hi,

When making the night texture you would in general darken the whole texture, except the parts you want to light up.
