June 11, 201213 yr Hello! I often read that in order to run fsx good one needs an Intel processor overclocked to atleast 4.0 and a good nvidia card. Well Im currently running fsx on on I5 2320 3.0 turbo to 3.3 and an amd hd 6770. I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance of this computer. Little if any stutters, NGX vc 25-30 fps, rex, gex, and utx. Also getting good image quality with the amd card. I am however only running ai traffic at 25 percent. Maybe if I boosted that up to 80 or 90 percent then I would require a faster cpu. Also I do not have any addon airports. So my question is would there be any benefit in upgrading to an i7-2600 3.4 turbo 3.8? I am not interested in any of the "k" versions as I do not plan on overclocking.
June 11, 201213 yr Probably not. I have the same CPU and it's running smooth, no need for more power. And more powerful CPU is also demanding more power from PSU, producing more heat and you also need a decent motherboard with right chipset if you wanna overclock, so it's not just CPU after all And you could try to put up your traffic percentage, 2320 is good enough. Even my old Phenom II X3 could handle it. @dazz: since it's not "K" CPU he can't overclock. Yes I know, some chipsets could change BCLK, but I would not recommend that. Only high-end motherboards can rise BCLK to higher levels to actually have some decent overclock and risk of damaging your hardware is also very high. Cheers, George.
June 11, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the input guys. I got this computer for my wife at a great price. I was using an old computer that ran fsx but not very good. I didnt want to install all my fsx stuff on her computer and then have to do it again later on a newer computer. Then, my old pos died and I thought, "well ill try her computer and see if itll run fsx!" Glad I did. I'll stick to the 2320 and just enjoy fsx.
