June 13, 201213 yr Never ever come across this .dll bringing FSX to its knees. Anyone any ideas what it is? At 35k PMDG MD-11F using REX Essentials just past Ireland headed for EDDF(and no, it is not related to REX as I've just done a RTW with the MD-11F and REX and have had no issues whatsoever), when bang, all of a sudden FSX ctd'd with this MSWSOCK.dll App Hang. June 14, 201213 yr Hi Rick, The mswsock.dll, verson 6.1.7601.17514, dated 11/20/2010, is a system file located in your Windows\System32 directory. I doubt the dll itself caused the crash and think it's just one of those memory issues where the dll was being called by FSX at the same time there was a memory issue. Here's a link you can use to investigate on fixing a mswsock.dll crash - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/mswsock-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm. I have never seen this dll involved in a FSX CTD/App Hanging before and I can't find anything via Google that identifies this dll with an FSX crash or application hanging. So you may need to lower a slider or two to take some pressure off of FSX. Before you do that though, look in your System32 directory for this dll, then right click it and select properties. Look under Detail and make sure the version is the same as mine. Best regards, Jim
June 15, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim Thanks for that reply. Ever helpful as usual. Will try. Was equally baffled why this should kick in. The word 'sock' led me to believe it was related to Winsock which in itself is related to a network tie-up, but I'm running a hard-wired connection from the router, so I was left scratching my head. Still, you indeed have now shed another angle on it. Thanks Jim. Rick Almeida
June 15, 201213 yr Hi Rick, Yes, it's frustrating getting these 'issues' with FSX. Your Event Viewer should show the Exception Code 0000005 indicating a violation of the memory. That code shows up in most CTD's and App Hangs. There might be a tweak you can place in the FSX.cfg to give you more memory. A review of Word Not Allowed's guide here on AVSIM might help. Hope you can find a fix! Best regards, Jim
June 15, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim Already have Word Not Allowed's guide and tweaks applied. Thanks for your tips though. I reckon it was an issue caused as I was trying to set up a Wi-Fi connection on my newly-acquired Samsung Galaxy smartphone, but unfortunately the current Euro2012 soccer tourney is making me a rather reluctant FSX user at the moment.Mind you, I'd not want to be amidst that very heavy downpour in the Ukraine right now that has called off a match temporarily. Wow! A Samsung Galaxy. My 2 year requirement with Verizon for my DroidX smartphone is about up and believe I'll be moving to the Samsung Galaxy too. Having lived in Europe a couple of times, I understand your passion for soccer. I haven't posted until today because I was watching the US Open golf tournament (and Tiger) and checking out the new Pro-ATC software just released yesterday. Best regards, Jim
June 16, 201213 yr Author I was watching the US Open golf tournament (and Tiger) I too was following it live on the USPGA website, no video though just text updates and the leaderboard scores. Odd how the world #1+#2 last US Open missed the cut and the same happens this year. Rick Almeida
June 16, 201213 yr I too was following it live on the USPGA website, no video though just text updates and the leaderboard scores. I have been following the live video and leadership board at usopen.com. Excellent streaming but it's about 10 seconds slower than the action on TV. It just followed certain players and on the first day I watched Tiger, Bubba, and Phil completely on the US Open site and watched the rest of the players on ESPN/NBC. Today the usopen.com site is televising live the 8th and 18th holes. I have been watching bits and pieces of the Czech/Poland match on ESPN. Best regards, Jim
June 16, 201213 yr Author Unfortunately do not have those channels, Jim, nor can I get streaming from USGA website outside the US, so have to rely on text updates. I'd like to see Woods come full circle in his redemption and win it and close the gap to 'The Golden Bear' whom I've followed along with the Arnie, Gary, etc from early 60's. Rick Almeida
June 17, 201213 yr I'd like to see Woods come full circle Me too but it doesn't look good. For some reason, he simply fell apart yesterday. He started out good and I thought he was going to excel and Jim Furyk would crash and burn. But it was the opposite. He's going to have to take a lot of chances today to try to come back and that may make things worse. When's the next tournament he's playing in? LOL. Best regards, Jim
