May 16, 200422 yr I posted a screenshot of where I am with Grand Coulee at this point. Wanted to be sure you'd see it.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=136879&page=
May 17, 200422 yr Another construct of the area using USGS data. The road is now in its proper location. Just need to move the Bill Gates dam. Unfortunately, the FS Genesis 38m mesh places the elevation change (dark area just below the road) at the wrong place. Also, using FSGenesis landclass.Dick Boley @KLBEhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/76416.jpg regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
May 17, 200422 yr I am happy that you are working on this wonderful area, but I would more believe that the FSGenesis is correct, and the river and lake is incorrect.Justin's data, is much more accurate than that used by microsoft. A fine example of this is around the Spokane area, where the Spokane river valley clearly is visible in the mesh, but the actual river is not nearly accurate enough. If I were a betting man, I'd side with FSGenesis on this one..
May 17, 200422 yr The shorelines and the "dam road" are probably properly placed. Shorelines and roads are directly from USGS data. Justin's mesh is based on 38meter points and thus does not have near the accuracy of the USGS road/shore data. I created this stuff at a resolution of 7 meters between points. It is smoothed somewhat to reduce the size of the BGLs. I can go up to 4 meters per point and no smoothing. From altitude this "improvement" is not very moticeable and the size of the BGL files increases drmatically. Also, takes a lot longer to load the big BGLs when starting FS2004.Tools used were Terrascene to create colored line drawings of roads, streams, and shorelines from DLG files. This data is then fed into a program being developed by C. Wright that then produces BGL files for LWM and VTP type lines. A 1200sq mile section takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and the results are way beyond those of the native FS2004. Coupled with the FSGenesis 38m mesh, roads no longer run in odd places and rivers follow the valleys produced by the mesh.Dick Boley @KLBE regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
May 17, 200422 yr Larry, I posted a reply on your screenshot thread, you made my day with this one...We all are going to owe you either some money or a big thanks for your efforts here...Flights out of Emma Field will never be the same again... :-beerchug FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
May 17, 200422 yr Hmmm... interesting.First of all, forgive me Dick (and AVSIM) I put a copy of your screenshot in this post to make it easier to compare. Also a top down of mine and a satellite view. If the dark band in yours is the dam in mine, we both have Roosevelt Lake looking pretty much the same. Nice work. But I still think the elevation line in the Genesis mesh is the dam.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/76427.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/76416.jpg
June 2, 200422 yr Hey Larry, How's things going with the DAM project??? :-wave FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
June 3, 200422 yr I messed up some other addon scenery that had an effect on my dam scenery, got that working right now. Also was told about some new utilities that helped a lot, but I had to take a crash course to use them. I'm making progress again, I posted a few new screenshots.
June 4, 200422 yr Thanks Larry... FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
