Just About Had It..........................

I'm having serious problems with CTD's .........but strangely only in certain areas .I have the seasonal fix installed and always fly in Summer (very frustrating) but whatever I do I cannot complete a flight that starts or ends in the UK.This also happens in pockets around Europe mainly out of Frankfurt. I can fly anywhere else in the world (been flying in the US a lot but now want to return home)and all over Africa Asia and Australia and gues what?????? No problems. The few addon scenery's I have are in the flyable areas so it surely can't be them,I have tried taking out all the AFCAD's and then flying in those areas and still get CTD's. I get them with all types of aircraft (I fly mainly PSS 320 330 340 and PMDG 737NG).I cannot understand why they are happening and what could be causing them but as anyone who is experiencing them on a regular basis will tell you ....they just kill the enjoyment. So does anyone have any ideas for anything that I have not tried but could or should? I am not completey computer illiterate but would appreciate any guidance on any solution offered. Thanks in appreciation and frustrationSteveAthlon XP 2600MSI KT4V APPOLO KT4001024 DDR SDRAMATI RADEON 9200 256MB (CAT 3.2)160GB HARD DRIVE:(

Addon scenery can cause problems including CTDs miles ( thousands of miles sometimes) away from it's own area. Try uninstalling all addons then reinstalling one at a time- testing each time.Dave

Thanks will give it a go

If I was being driven mad by that problem Steve, I'd remove all addon scenery & daily fly only default aircraft for a month. If problem wasstill there I'd do a complete reinstall, taking out everything. Then I'd reinstall one thing at a time, giving each individual thing3 days trial. These problems usually come when one installs & or makes config changes, without doing it one thing at a time & testing for days the new setup. If you make multiple changes, you can never track what did the damage.Despite what people think, successful simming is one of the most difficult & complicated computer work any hobbyist can do. It is light years more complicated than things like advanced word processing, spread sheets or advanced Photoshop work.I run FS2002 with PSS 747-400 faultlessly. I run FS2004 with default aircraft in and out of UK almost daily with VFR Photograhic scenery and detailed MS clouds and never have a fault. I used to have your problem with FS2000 & it was addon scenery which caused it. My old joystick caused crashes until I replaced it. I gave it a severe beating,& threw it over the back fence!!!If you still have these problems, I would seriously consider getting a new box & reuse the monitor & graphics card. The problem could even lie in the ram. Who knows? But I know how you feel.Peter Sydney Australia

One thing you could try which worked for me was to uncheck all the "show terrain" boxes on the GPS, Weather map and the Map view. For some reason, if the terrain is shown in any of these maps I will suffer a CTD, lockup, crash etc. This happens everywhere and yes it is very frustrating. Try this if you have n't already and see if it works for you. Colin

Have faith, it really can be solved. I had exactly the same problems, and now I don't. Completely virgin re-install followed by adding things slowly. I have no CTD's no memory leaks and vastly improved FPS. I was very careful to make sure that there was no debris leftover from the problem installation, particularly AFCAD files which I think cause most of the problemsI now have the following loadedFSNAVFSG Mesh UKBritish Airports 1-4 (and official AFCADS)FS Scene Summer texturesScotflightEvery UK, European and US based airline as AI from PAI at 100%Spain & Portugal MeshLEAL addon sceneryEBBR addon sceneryI have vastly reduced the number of aircraft I had (never used most of them) and this has significantly improved loading time. I have not messed around with any cfg settings.Of course I know if I start to add back the huge amount of scenery I had previously, things will start to slow down again but the whole process of re installation made me look seriously at what I actually use and dont use. I mean how many times am I going to fly in and out of the Falkland islands or Novosibirsk in Russia??Try itadrianMy system specs areDell 8250 3.06ghz200gb HD1536mb RAMATI 9700 ProWin XP ProAudigy21600 x 1200 x32 Resolution

Hi,I have been using these, I have the landclassmask set to 0, I have the Terrain switched off on Map, (tho not GPS & Weather) yet still get black screens attributed to Terrain.dll, which if you send the error report to MS you get a message saying it is caused by a "Device Driver" but, they cannot expand further.I have installed the new ATI drivers and last night, after about 10 mins from EGBB to EDDH, FS9 hung, then black screen, then reappeared with a message from ATI saying the VPU Recover had operated and I should send the report to ATI.I let the computer do this and carried on flying with no other problems, it is obviously still not right, but, at least I got away with my flight, (just hope it doesn't happen online and on finals).CheersTerry
