Bad graphics - I really need your help

Featured Replies

For several weeks I have been fighting unsuccessfully with bad graphics in my FS9.1. I don't remember the starting point.

All in all the problem is I get very blurry ground textures and lines (roads) are jagged.

I have thoroughly described and illustrated the problem in a few posts. So, here are links to two of them if anyone wants to see more:

I have patiently followed all available advice, including hardware cleaning, video drivers reinstall, defragging, measuring GPU/CPU temperatures, and of course (Nick's, Word Not Allowed's and Ryan's) settings for both fs9.cfg and Nvidia Inspector (1.9.6.5.). Initially I believed my FSX install is not affected, but after investigation it appeared I was wrong. I get the same problem in FSX.

So, suspecting too many addons (I do like to install a lot, especially scenery) and some conflicts I completely uninstalled both sims. I made a clean FS9.1 install last night and did not add any addons. I was hoping to see razor sharp ground textures but... unfortunately the ground is still terrible. So looks like it is not about any FS addons as there are none now. See:

I have downloaded some software to tire and test my GTX 560 Ti. I am a laic but generally I can't see any problems with the card's performance. See the results:

However, after testing it with VMT, I was reported of many errors (?) I don't understand. See:

I have installed the latest NVIDIA drivers, 301.42 WHQL and the latest NVIDIA Inspector (1.9.6.5.).

In NI I did not touch the Global settings. Just the MS FS 2004 profile (currently looking like Tab's recommended one).

I might do some extra settings but I have read I should only touch the Nvidia Inspector's FS2004 profile, which I did.

Can and/or should I simultaneously set the NI Global profile and/or anything in the default Nvidia Control Panel?

I am totally lost. First time like this since I started simming (over 20 years ago).

Where is the error? Is my 560 Ti card dying? If so, why is it generally working and showing good benchmark results?

Should I send back my card (it probably still is under warranty since I bought it half a year ago)? But then I will be left without my computer for a long time.

Or could reinstalling Windows (7 64) help? It would be painful, but I can do it even tonight if necessary)?

Has any of you experienced smilar problems and are you able to suggest any way I should follow?

I know there are many simmers around who are much more technically knowledgeable than me. I have a strong belief in your minds, mates.

Thank you in advance!

Jagged lines and blurry textures are not due to a faulty card, but rather, graphics settings being misconfigured. If actual graphical artifacts are being observed or crashes occur, then you could look at it being a faulty card perhaps. Until then, you just need to find the right combination of settings to achieve the desired level of graphical quality. Can you start over with NV Inspector?

Hi Rafal,

Seems like you have tried everything, one remote possibility, you said you like to install a lot of scenery. have you ever installed some of the older low resolution Landsat Satelite-nav photoreal scenery packages, Things like FS Altitude, or some older SimSav vy files, as having these resident somewhere in your scenery files, they may be over riding the landclass ones. They have been known to block later type Orbx scenery and prevent Autogen.

Some of these may stay in their own folder even if you uninstalled FS. Might be worth a check.

Can't think of any thing else, except maybe start with a fresh .cfg file, ie. no tweaks.

Hi, TechguyMaxC and Ron!

Thank you both for replying to my post.

I have tried all (literally a-l-l) recommended settings for both fs9.cfg and NV Inspector. Also a-l-l available 560 drivers. No change.

No, I have not installed any of these and the only photoreal sceneries are (or now: were) parts of some payware scenery addons I am using.

I have rescanned and removed all hidden addons I could find anywhere on my HD.

I have uninstalled and clean installed FS and, to my surprise, there was still no change!

Interestingly, I have apllied the VMT software to fully test my GTX 560 Ti memory and... it found almost 2000 errors!

In my above post you can see a screenshot of the log after a partial scan.

So I have sent my card back to Asus service under warranty. But it meas a month of waiting!

In the meantime I was given a replacement card, but it is a cheap and weak one, just to run my PC for working. So, no simming for a month.

BUT: out of curiosity I have run the freshly installed and clean FS9 on the new card and... no difference! Blurries and jaggies all around. The greatest FS mistery for me ever!

So, when the card returns, I will format my HD, reinstall Windows and see. If nothing helps, I will treat it as a sign to switch to another hobby. Maybe 20 years is enough for one?

Strange indeed,

while your waiting....Have you tried DxDiag to check the direct X? Also I would run Chkdisk, for hard disk errors maybe.

G'day, Ron!

Very very strange. However I did not check direct X and I did not run a full Chkdisk.

So these are the first two things I will do. Thanks for the tips.

Have a great Thursday, mate!
