June 22, 201213 yr That would be me. Hello and welcome to the AVSIM forums, I hope you enjoy your stay here! 1. How much you want to push your CPU entierly depends on you. Reading different posts, you will see people ranging of going up to 4.5 and not a single cent above. Then there are those who claim 4.8 is also OK, and then there are those who are not scared of doing the max possible (5.0+). Do whatever you are comfortable with and what doesn't push you CPU temperaturewise into too hot levels. CoreTemp is a good program for measuring temperature, OCCT is good for testing and also displays temperature etc... in my guide you are going to find couple of links to some threads that will teach you how to overclock. 2. Bojote's tweak is old in my personal opinion. You can try mine, and see how it works for you. No tweak is 100% full proof for everyone, also not Bojote's. You might find yourself using mine will give you best graphics and performance there is. But if you decide going that way, I urge you to read it in detail, not jumping any sections and starting with a fresh FSX configuration. 3. This old topic again :Waiting: Not going to comment on this one, since I did already too many times already. In my guide you'll find a big section on it. Good luck! :good:

So 5.0+GHz won't be an option. 4.5 is a more realistic hope, but it totally depends on the silicon. Enjoy overclocking
June 22, 201213 yr Uh, sorry.... I completely missed that. You are right SAAB340 (would be nice if you wrote your name in the sig so I/we don't have to call you SAAB340). Same here, enjoy!
June 22, 201213 yr What AM are you interested to see with HT on? Did you see any difference with 1 vs 2 T&t loaders? I'm working away so I cant do it now unfortunatly. Quick test with AM=14 showed both cores 2 & 3 maxed out at some point, which seems to confirm HT can actually work in FSX. What an eye opener, thanks Lars
June 22, 201213 yr
which seems to confirm HT can actually work in FSX.Yes it can=), but it's only really helpful in certain cases (photoscenery) as HT means hotter CPU= lower OC=lower FPS. But sometimes it's worth it.
June 23, 201213 yr Author Hey Word Not Allowed thank you so much for writing. I will carefully read your guide and apply each step. If anything comes up in the way I will come back and share my experience. Thank you so much again Remember that it's a Gulftown and not a Sandy Bridge CPU. So 5.0+GHz won't be an option. 4.5 is a more realistic hope, but it totally depends on the silicon. Enjoy overclocking Thank you so much. I will follow these steps and advise if anything comes up.
June 23, 201213 yr
Yes it can=), but it's only really helpful in certain cases (photoscenery) as HT means hotter CPU= lower OC=lower FPS. But sometimes it's worth it. Now testing AM=244 Main scheduler in core 2, 4 T&t loaders sharing 2 true cores and sure enough, cores 4 to 7 maxed out for a good 10 seconds after slewing away
June 23, 201213 yr Looks like it's the texture lighting what maxes out the HT cores Yes, the load on the texture loaders peak every 61 seconds as the light refresh happens. And in the task manager you can see that the light refresh goes quicker using AM=244 on a quad-core with HT compared to the regular AM=14 quad-core without HT. Maybe we should continue this discussion in my thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/377105-texture-loading-ssd-vs-hdd/ instead of hijacking rcichellas thread =)

Good luck! :good: Word Not Allowed, I'm trying to follow your guide on tweaking but it seems I'm a little lost here. For example, I don't find any bufferpools, affinity mask, etc on my .CFG. Does this means I have to create them? Is there only one .CFG for tweaking? The one I'm looking is located at: Users-AppData-Roaming-Microsoft-FSX. I'm sorry if this is much basic, but I'm not really good at this. Thank you very much for your help and patience
July 18, 201213 yr Author Hello again everybody. Since the time I started writing on this Forum I've never had the chance to start modifying my FSX and computer for better performance. Even though I have a better picture of the the starting point for tweaking, OC, configuring, etc I don't know how does the .CFG file really works. I know that this might be too basic for everybody here, but the idea of my initial post is to find different advises for someone who is not good on these stuff (that would be me). 1.- The .CFG file I'm trying to tweak is located at: Local Disk © - Users - AppData - Roaming - Microsoft -FSX. There are actually two different .CFG files in this folder. One saya "Camera" and the other says FSX which is the one I think has to be tweaked. Would somebody confirm if this is the actual file I have to modify 2.- I will follow every step on Word Not Allowed's Software Guide which is the one everybody has recommended. The first step on the guide is tweaking the .CFG file. When I open my file, I don't see any of the terms that are shown. For example: BUFFERPOOLS - Poolsize, JOBSCHEDULER- AffinityMask, Highmemfix, Texture_bandwith_Mult, etc etc etc.Does this means that I have to write down each of these tweaks in my .CFG file? Should they be there or have to be created from scratch? 3.- I have read on Word Not Allowed's guide that the tweaks he uses will work best on a Sandy Bridge System. I really don't know what that is, but could someone please tell if my computer works for that? - PROCESSOR:Intel Core i7-990X BX80613I7990X Processor Extreme Edition - Six Core, 12MB L3 Cache, 1.5MB L2 Cache, 3.46 GHz (3.73 GHz Max Turbo). - MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE G1.Assassin Intel X58 Motherboard - ATX, Socket B (LGA1366), Intel X58 Chipset, 2200MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, CrossFireX/SLI Ready, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0. - VIDEO CARDS: 2 (two) GTX-570, 2.5 GB each. - MEMORY: 12GB, DDR3, 2000 MHZ. - HARD DRIVE: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6G. - Windows 7, 64 Bits Thank you very much for your help
