  1. Hello Mark, I've narrowed my search based on the information you provided. According to your advice, any 2K monitor above 41" falls behind 90 DPI which means any bigger screen should be 4k resolution and with a maximum size of 49" which is where DPI drops to 89.91, am I correct? If I go lets say to 55" on 4k (which is the size you recommended on your first quote) DPI drops to 86, is that too low? How flexible is that 90 DPI reference? Perhaps 80 is a good number too? One more thing, I'm a bit concerned about the benefits of monitors over TVs. The biggest 4k monitors I've seen so far with gaming features such as G-Sync Technology, IPS, refresh rates greater than 200Hz, IPS, 1-4ms response times, etc are around 40". On the other hand, I've found 4k TVs up to 60" with very similar prices but they lack the features mentioned above and Refresh rates are usually 60Hz or less. The question is, does P3D takes advantage of the gaming features? What about refresh rates? Is it worth having more than 60Hz? Thank you very much again for your precious time. Regards
  2. Can anybody tell if its worth buying a 144 Hz monitor for P3D? Even if the game isn`t taking advantage of this technology right now, will it be good to future-proof myself by buying such refresh rates? Or is 60Hz way enough for P3D?
  3. Thank you very much. Should I be worried about refresh rates? How many Hz would you recommend for P3D alone?
  4. Thanks for your help. This information will definitely help narrow my search. I own a 40" 1080 Samsung TV that`s not being used in my home, do you think I could use that just for P3D? By doing so I will save a lot of money, but I really want to have a good immersion. Will a TV do the job?
  5. Thank you so much for replying. I really won't be using the monitor for anything else than P3D. Last month I was trying to decide between buying a new monitor or going for the VR experience. Long story short, I ended up with an HTC Vive which can be a nice hardware for flying VFR on ORBX´s sceneries (at least for now), but since I´m a real pilot most of the times I fly IFR on complex airplanes following checklists, reading charts, managing the FMS, etc and theses tasks are very hard to do while in VR. I guess I´ll stick to a monitor until VR gets better. I guess your recommendation leaves me with 2 options: Keep my 1070 GPU and go for a 1440p or buy both a 4k and a new GPU (perhaps a 1080?). Since technology is changing almost on a monthly basis, I would really like to invest in something for the long term. Do you think I would stay behind if I go for the 1440p option? Remember, my only intention is to play P3D. One last thing I forgot to tell, I have a new Samsung 40" 1080 TV which I could use for this purpose. Do you think it'll do the job until VR technology gets more advanced? Sure this option will save me a lot of money, but what about performance and immersion? Will I still enjoy a good immersion? Thank you very much
  6. Hello Everyone, I need some help on choosing the best monitor in market for P3D V4. Between a 4k and an ultrawide (21:9) with 1440p resolution, which would bring the best immersion and performance? I´m thinking of buying a 34" display with a refresh rate greater than 100Hz and G-sync technology (I have a GTX 1070). Is there any other spec that I should include in my search? Perhaps response time? From my research I´ve learned that performance with a 4k resolution isn´t affected drastically since P3D´s engine is mostly CPU bound. Is this true? Will I see a lot of difference between 4k and 1440p? Does a 21:9 aspect ratio has big benefits over a 16:9 with regards to immersion? Please help... My Rig: ROG Maximus Hero VIII i7 6700@4.6ghz Nvidia GTX 1070 16Gb Ram
  7. Hello Everyone, After doing everything you have told me the aircraft still doesn't work at all. The throttles will not move up or down and the avionics displays won't come alive. What is the problem? Please help on this. Thanks
  8. Hello Kenny thanks for your answer. I indeed registered the airplane with the code sent to my email after buying the aircraft, This is not my first PMDG so this is why I found it unsual. What else do you think could be happening? Actually the aircraft loads with both engines running. Generators and avionics switches are turned on from the very beginning. I even tried connecting to ground power but the problem persisted. Yes I tried pressing the on button but it remains off Thank you Gregg. I will try this and get back to you with results.
  9. Hi everyone, I just downloaded the PMDG J41 and installed it on my computer. When the aircraft is chosen on the pre flight FSX menu, you can start hearing cockpit sounds even before the aircraft has loaded in the flight. Once loaded, the avionics are not displaying and the throttles won't move up or down. Even if you turn on and off the avionics switches, the displays will remain in black (including the FMS). I tried uninstalling and installing again but the problem remains. Just in case, I'm running on Vista 64 Bit. Please somebody help. Thanks Sorry I meant to say Windows 7 64 Bit
  10. Hello again everybody. Since the time I started writing on this Forum I've never had the chance to start modifying my FSX and computer for better performance. Even though I have a better picture of the the starting point for tweaking, OC, configuring, etc I don't know how does the .CFG file really works. I know that this might be too basic for everybody here, but the idea of my initial post is to find different advises for someone who is not good on these stuff (that would be me). 1.- The .CFG file I'm trying to tweak is located at: Local Disk © - Users - AppData - Roaming - Microsoft -FSX. There are actually two different .CFG files in this folder. One saya "Camera" and the other says FSX which is the one I think has to be tweaked. Would somebody confirm if this is the actual file I have to modify 2.- I will follow every step on Word Not Allowed's Software Guide which is the one everybody has recommended. The first step on the guide is tweaking the .CFG file. When I open my file, I don't see any of the terms that are shown. For example: BUFFERPOOLS - Poolsize, JOBSCHEDULER- AffinityMask, Highmemfix, Texture_bandwith_Mult, etc etc etc.Does this means that I have to write down each of these tweaks in my .CFG file? Should they be there or have to be created from scratch? 3.- I have read on Word Not Allowed's guide that the tweaks he uses will work best on a Sandy Bridge System. I really don't know what that is, but could someone please tell if my computer works for that? - PROCESSOR:Intel Core i7-990X BX80613I7990X Processor Extreme Edition - Six Core, 12MB L3 Cache, 1.5MB L2 Cache, 3.46 GHz (3.73 GHz Max Turbo). - MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE G1.Assassin Intel X58 Motherboard - ATX, Socket B (LGA1366), Intel X58 Chipset, 2200MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, CrossFireX/SLI Ready, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0. - VIDEO CARDS: 2 (two) GTX-570, 2.5 GB each. - MEMORY: 12GB, DDR3, 2000 MHZ. - HARD DRIVE: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6G. - Windows 7, 64 Bits Thank you very much for your help
  11. Word Not Allowed, I'm trying to follow your guide on tweaking but it seems I'm a little lost here. For example, I don't find any bufferpools, affinity mask, etc on my .CFG. Does this means I have to create them? Is there only one .CFG for tweaking? The one I'm looking is located at: Users-AppData-Roaming-Microsoft-FSX. I'm sorry if this is much basic, but I'm not really good at this. Thank you very much for your help and patience
  12. Hey Word Not Allowed thank you so much for writing. I will carefully read your guide and apply each step. If anything comes up in the way I will come back and share my experience. Thank you so much again Thank you so much. I will follow these steps and advise if anything comes up.
  13. Well Guys thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. As usual there are different opinions that I will try to put together to get the final answer I'm looking for: Where should I start? 1.- OVERCLOCKING: As I'm able to see this is the MOST recommended action to get the performance I'm looking for. Everybody agrees (or at least the posters here) that overclocking will do the major increase in performance compared to any other tuning available. As I'm completely new on this, would you please inform to which value should the CPU be overclocked? I've heard of 4.5+, but is there actually an exact value? My other concern is temperature control. My case (coolermaster full tower) has three big fans (one on each side and one on the top) but I'm not sure if this is enough to keep the temps where they should. The case doesn't have any display on it, so where should I monitor the temperature? Which is the temperature limit to watch? 2.- TWEAKING: On my first post I asked about Bojote's tool Vs. Buying Xtreme FSX PC V2. I can see that Bojote is a very nice "overall" tool for tweaking, but Lars ("SAAB340") shared a very complete and updated link from someone called KOSTAS. Has anybody else followed these advices? It seems that Bojote hasn't updated his tweaks long time ago but Word Not Allowed did a very recent post 2 weeks from now and seems to have more updated information. (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/370594-read-before-posting-software-hardware-guide-for-fsx/). 3.- FPS LIMITING: Now this point get very controversial. I have two set of opinions: - Yes, this is definitely the best thing to do. Set your FSX Frame rate limiter to Unlimited, and use an external limiter to control your frames, I have mine locked at 60FPS. Locking frame rates stop a huge stuttering issue Simmers had in the past, and a number of other benefits. The built in limiter actually doesn't do a bad job limiting frames, but for some reason I have noted a performance loss using it. With the external you get best of both worlds. This Link takes you to the holy grail of information with the NVIDIA Inspector tool. - Do not use an external limiter in FSX. It might have been the best known thing in the past. But there is a fairly recent discovery to really get rid of stutters. Use the half refresh rate V-sync tweak within nvidia inspector. It is mentioned and linked in Kostas guide and I also looked in to it in my study. It really, really makes wonders to stutters. The only downside is that you have to be able to maintain 30 FPS locked within FSX. (Or 20FPS locked if you go for the 1/3rd rate Vsync). I really don't know what to do here. Use external limiter or not?
  14. Thank you so much "DEADLYINERTIA". I will definitely follow your advice. Anyone else would like to share something? BTW, is there any other major "tuning" that I haven't mentioned? These will do the major performance boost?
  15. Dear Simmers, I've been reading a lot of information regarding tips and tricks to get the most out of FSX. To be honest it gets very confusing as there's too many opinions differing from each other. I recently got a very nice built but it seems my specs aren't enough to get the most out of FSX without doing additional tweaking or tuning. My CPU: - PROCESSOR:Intel Core i7-990X BX80613I7990X Processor Extreme Edition - Six Core, 12MB L3 Cache, 1.5MB L2 Cache, 3.46 GHz (3.73 GHz Max Turbo). - MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE G1.Assassin Intel X58 Motherboard - ATX, Socket B (LGA1366), Intel X58 Chipset, 2200MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, CrossFireX/SLI Ready, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0. - VIDEO CARDS: 2 (two) GTX-570, 2.5 GB each. - MEMORY: 12GB, DDR3, 2000 MHZ. - HARD DRIVE: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6G. - Windows 7, 64 Bits Now the question is, which of the following tips should I follow to get the most out of FSX based on the above specifications. As previously mentioned, there are too many opinions and maybe some of the ones I read are out of date. 1.- Bojote's Tweak Vs. Buying Xtreme FSX PC V2: Is Bojote's tweak enough for boosting performance? Is it worth spending money on Xtreme FSX? Which one will give more FPS´s? 2.- Downloading Shader Model 3 from Bojote Vs. Buying Mogwaisoft Shade: Do I need both? Is there any difference between them? What is the purpose of the shader? Will I get more FPS? 3.- Overclocking the CPU: Will I really boost performance by overclocking the CPU up to 4.5GHZ. Will the CPU get overheated? Is this really necessarily? 4.- Disk Defrag: I've heard of the O&O Defrag. Some say is good, some say is useless. Would any defrag work? Should I defrag the whole dics or just FSX's folder? 5.- FPS Limiter 0.2: Can someone please explain what is this? Will this limit the FPS outside the FSX? Should I set the FPS in the FSX to "unlimited"? 6.- NVIDIA Inspector:What is it with this tool? I really don't understand the following statement (taken out of this forum): " Make your CPU do all the work that it can. Use "Nvidia Inspector" for AA settings ..ect NOT FSX. Turn off AA in FSX and drop Filtering to Trilinear." I'm really not an expert in this topics. Even though I've been using FS for more than 15 years, I've never tweaked nor tuned anything in the program. I just thought that by buying a computer with such specs would make the simulator run completely smooth, but with my add ons and graphic settings sometimes the FPS comes down to 10 (which is unacceptable for the money I spent). Please help me on this. Thanks
