Track IR re-evaluated.

Featured Replies

I posted this morning that I had purchased Track IR years ago ( version 3) and since I stopped flying FS9 over 5 years ago, I forgot all about it. After I purchased it and used it for awhile but once flying the heavy jets, found it was more of a nuisance than anything so I stopped using it.

This morning I was reading about Track IR on this forum, and started wondering if I still had the unit. Looking around, I found a USB cable running up to the top of my computer desk, and there was a Track IR on the other end under some magazines and other clutter. I went to the Track IR website and downloaded the latest version of their software ( version 5 something) and hooked it up and then I found the unit that attached to a baseball cap with the 3 reflectors on it. It wouldn't work at all when I first started the software , and it told me I needed a Vectra license number and hash number. Now mind you this was, over 6 years since I used it, so I could remember what the heck I needed to run it, or what these numbers were.

Anyway, I purchased the Vectra license from their website for $20, got home tonight, fired up the software and inserted the license numbers when asked by the software. Started the software, and it was working. I made one adjustment ( centering) started Flight and selected one of the planes, got in the cockpit and started flying. It works great!!!!!!!!!!! Much better than it ever worked years ago in FS9 when it used to jerk around and go crazy intermittently. The action now is smooth, you can look around outside the aircraft, and down at the instruments and the panning is smooth as silk. Am I glad I didn't throw this unit out when I got rid of all my FS9 stuff. For VFR flying in small aircraft, this is the best.

Second that experience though I bought a TIR5 almost 2 yrs ago which I hardly used with fsx because of the jerky panning and me flying the PMDG heavies. But in

flight this is just perfect.

I had a Tir 2.0 I used in IL2 and LOVED it. I also got a Tir 4 some time ago, but it recently fried due to a bad motherboard. Thanks for the report in guys, and I think ill look into getting a newly used Tir 4, or a 5 if I get a new job sometime soon.

By the way, I found this video today which does a great job of explaining how to set up Track IR with today's software.
