Is the 580 still the best bang for buck card? AND will the case fit the board and cooler ok? and if anyone has this board, will the cooler hamper the ram slots? I dont understand al this sata 2 and sata 3 business, im assuming all this is compatible? and if so does anyone see any pitfalls or bottlenecks? my ram i will be going for is the samsung green, as it apparenty has excellent o/c potential and also the low profile incase of my ram slots being hampered by the cooler, if anyone has other suggestions for this build then fire away. Total cost is £1300 Regards Also, as this is my first home build, im assuming all cables, sata etc come with the equipment? Paul Westcott
July 11, 201213 yr is the 2700k s/b still the better chip? Is the 580 still the best bang for buck card? AND will the case fit the board and cooler ok? and if anyone has this board, will the cooler hamper the ram slots? 1) You can take the 3770K or the 3570K to 4.5Gz for the most part.. Few have taken it over 4.8Ghz I hear 2700K can go to 4.8Gz for many and few have taken it over 5.Ghz. So overall they seem to similar or Ivy having a very slght edge. So I went with the IV and got it OC to 4.5Ghz. If you already on Sandy Bridge, no point moving to IB. but if you are starting out, IMO, Ivy is the way to go. 2) IMO, big bang for the buck is the GTX 670. Others are free to disagree, 3) cooler and space.,..For sure.. you need to check that out or be in a position to return/exchange. The D14 is a beast I believe.. thats why it helps in cooling at high OC since it has so much fin realestate. Think of Water coolingor the cooler master 212 Evo which as long as you don't intent to OC over 4.5Gz (Ivy). Too many option here. And it also depends on the size of your case. Sata 3 is better than Sata 2. LOL :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 11, 201213 yr Author Hi manny, thanks for your reply, - ive just noticed that the noctua im thinking about says lga2011 only, is the 2700k not an 1155? I was thinking about the 2700k due to the o/c capabilities, and im not that interested in h/t as its an fsx build and only minor internet usage, eg charts n stuff. At present im on an old p5n board with an e6850 oc to 3.7 When it comes to the graphics cards, why is there so many listed? ie pny, gainward, gigabyte etc which do i go for? kindest regards paul Paul Westcott
July 11, 201213 yr Hi Paul, those pny, Gainward, Gigabyte etc are manufactures... of the same card. in US, I prefer EVGA since they seem to have the best customer service. One time they had lifetime warranty on their cards . I have exchanged some cards over like 6 years. LOL :) So I stick with them. Not sure about UK., generally when nvidea comes out with a new architecture all these manufactueres pretty much have identical cards...but then slowly they start differentiating by overclicking and providing different cooling and different video outs and what not.,.. So you end up with more choices. First decide on the serieies...like 580 or 670 or 680 or whatever,,,then check the same model from different manufactures and see what features they have added and their price point and decide. I thought the 2700K and the Ivy Bridge are all the same LGAs. Yes 2700K gives you better OC numbers per se. but I believe a 2700K OC to 3.8 is no better than an IB OC to 3.5Ghz considering IB improments over their memory handling and stuff. Others here can give you more indepth info Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
