July 13, 201213 yr Hi friends: I decided (I now regret it) to make the move over to FSX a few months ago. I gave up after a week. In the process of making the move, I went ahead an upgraded to DX11. Before I made that upgrade I had consistently achieved 40-60 fps in all A/C, scenery combinations. Now, no matter what I try, I have roughly half the frames. Is there any way to revert back to DX9? Thanks
July 14, 201213 yr FSX has no capability whatsoever of running DX11. It was developed for DX9 only but developers created a DX10 preview in SP2/Acceleration. So you can preview DX10 capabilities if you have SP2 or Acceleration installed. Your video card, even though it is DX11 compatible, will only use DX9. Not sure how you upgraded to DX11. Hopefully you did not delete DX9. Best regards, Jim
July 14, 201213 yr Is there any way to revert back to DX9? Thanks You can't revert back per se, but you can eliminate the issue of the DX9c installer aborting by using this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en You should be able to reinstall DX9c separately then, or so others have testified, so that DX9 only apps once again be able to utilize DX9. July 14, 201213 yr Author No luck there. It wouldn't let me install. Thanks for trying. Any other suggestions?
July 14, 201213 yr Respectfully, DX9 is already installed. Just run FSX. Direct X is installed with all versions of Windows. There's no need to install DX11, DX10, DX9, DX8, whatever. It's already installed. FSX is a 32 bit program that runs in DX9 only. Just start it up and you're flying in DX9. There may be a need to update it once in a while though. Here's a link that explains it better than me - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/directx9xp.htm. Upgrading to DX11 might have been good as it updates all versions of DirectX (if required). Perhaps there was something in the update (because that's all you got) that caused your FPS to decrease. There has to be another reason why you have bad FPS now. Lower your settings OR rename or delete the FSX.cfg and let it rebuild. Hope this helps, Best regards, Jim
July 15, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the explanation. I have tried your suggestion of deleting and letting the sim rebuild the config file. Frames seem good for about five minutes, then gradually taper off to 15-20 fps, half of what I used to have. It's too bad I can't go back to the way it was. It ran much, much better.
July 16, 201213 yr Did you change any of the display driver settings in NvidiaInspector or Control Panel? Setting those too high will cause FSX to slow down considerably. A lot of people max those settings out to try to get the highest quality of graphics in FSX and it brings FSX to its knees. Best regards, Jim
July 17, 201213 yr Author No, I use the recommended setting from Word Not Allowed's forum post. I left those alone. That's a good thought though. Thanks.
