July 20, 201213 yr Once again, SmartCockpit can help you (Page 98). The TCAS is situated to the right of the transponder panel on the pedestal. There are two ways of putting the switch: TA (Traffic Advisory) and TA/RA (Traffic Advisory) - and the STBY option, of course (which would actually make it three ways). TA means that the aircraft will only say "Traffic! Traffic!", while TA/RA it will tell you to climb or descent in order to avoid a collision. In the second case this advice has priority over any instruction given by ATC, even if it contradicts the ATC instruction, because both planes "know" which advice is given to the other plane's pilot.
