July 25, 201213 yr Hi folks, after an upgrade I can now use TP with FSX. I am currently using the .6 LOD and it looks good here in Fife Scotland. However, I am still getting rectangles of blue colour in the sea. I also get them in FS9. I am assuming that they are scenery tiles and they are devoid of the water detail. They flit about and appear in random places right up to the coastline. I get good coastline detail as I fly along in the cessna and then I get an odd tile which appears a basic blue colour with other blue tiles out to sea. I have not included the ini file as yet. I am hoping that someone has dealt with this or similar before. Any hints or tips/ideas would be appreciated. Cheers...Ken Regards...Ken Greer EGPH
July 28, 201213 yr Sorry for delay in answering . Please post Ini file. What do you mean by "currenty useing 6 Lod" ??
August 18, 201213 yr Author Hi there. No problem re. your delay in getting back to me. I have been busy myself. How do I post the ini file? When I say the .6 LOD, I mean that I have the ini file set for the 60 cm detail level as opposed the the default 1.1 in FSX. I will try and post the ini file whilst you are gettin back to me. March 20, 201412 yr I discovered Tileproxy only recently and I was very impressed by the photoreal scenery which it produces. Indeed, it has revived my interest in flightsim! However, there were some major problems near the shoreline: the first was the blue rectangles appearing in the sea, seemingly at random, as described by Ken. In addition, I had bands of varying shades of blue extending from the shore out into the sea, and triangles of land jutting into the sea along the coast, like the teeth of a saw. By trial and error I was able to solve most of these, and I give my solutions below in the hope they might help Ken or others who are having similar problems. 1. Within FSX, ensure that Settings\Display\Scenery\Water effects is set to at least Low 2.x. 2. In ProxyUser.ini, change the water_rgb value to water_rgb=#00341A The above modifications should get rid of the blue rectangles, at least they did in my case. For the problem of the blue bands and the triangles of land jutting out, try making the following changes to ProxyUser.ini: blend_distance=50.0 blend_exponent=2 alpha_mix=0.0700 alpha_max=0.3348 The effects of these changes was to get rid of the blue bands completely and to distort and blur the green triangles of land so much that they become virtually unnoticeable, unless you are looking for them. I am not at all technically-minded, so I have no idea why the above changes worked, but if someone would like to explain I would be very interested.
April 4, 201412 yr Author Hi wprinter. I've just seen your reply to my post. My Avsim password was playing up!! Thanks for coming in on this, I appreciate it. TP is one of those progs. where 'one size' definately does not suit all. It requires a good bit of tweaking, dependant on system specs. to get it to run at it's best. For instance, I run with no mip bias at all and have no shimmers, yet TP installs a mip bias line into the FSX config. It has taken me a long time to get it sweet. Now though, I am going to try your tweaks, having copied my ini file of course, to see if there is an even better visual appearance. Regards...Ken Regards...Ken Greer EGPH

Hi Ken, In response to your original problem, and maybe some ongoing problems, I tried FSX/Tileproxy near Fife, Scotland and found that there are indeed missing tiles at the Firth of Forth shore near Dysart (and other places). This is actually normal since there are no tiles with Service1 (Bing) in some of these areas. There is probably nothing wrong with any of your FSX/Tileproxy settings. I find the Flash Earth website to be very helpful to test the condition/resolution of tiles in a certain area. Flash Earth will show you the satellite mapping from both Service1 (Bing) and Service3 (Yahoo). This helps me decide which TileProxy service to use in a particular area of the earth. Here is the Flash Earth link: http://www.flashearth.com/ I attached a couple of photos that show the Service1 missing tile problem in your area. Flash Earth satellite image - Dysart, Scotland: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3cv9bojvdt4kcp1/Dysart_Scotland_Bing_Maps_Tiles_Missing.jpg You need to zoom in with Flash Earth to see the missing tiles.
