Hi i was just wondering why at 39,000 am i still getting clouds which are only a couple of thousand feet below me.

Where were you flying? There has been lot of supercell thunderstorms and what not going on around the globe lately.

You were probably above the overcast I was flying in at FL360. Yesterday I did a flight between Honolulu and Sidney and essentially was in clouds for the first 4000 miles from with step climbs from FL300 to FL360. About 800 miles from Sidney I said to myself this can’t be right and it wasn’t. I checked the satellite image on the NOAA website and it showed that area basically clear with a few cloud systems here and there. On the AS2012 Main page I clicked on the Refresh button in the lower left corner and the overcast was gone replaced by cirrus clouds. AS2012 is set to automatic downloads every ten minutes. I think the only time cloud depiction is accurate is at takeoff. At least I hope it is. I am too busy during takeoff and climb to be trying to determine if it is correct. I think it starts off okay and just goes downhill from there.
