April 2, 200323 yr Bizzarre. What happens to the planes that don't seem to be able to take off? Were the owners not told? Is that legal? I guess it is, otherwise they wouldn't have ploughed it all up... but why did they do it... cos of opposition?
April 2, 200323 yr What's of more interest, is that this story seems only a local one. I haven't seen any blurb on it in the national press, yet it is certainly of national interest. If "homeland security" is going to be used as a pass for denying due process, the world needs to know about it. I've sent emails to the various news organizations--I suggest others do the same. To me, this seems one man's declaration of war on due process, and the aviation community. We cannot let this happen in our country, IMHO....-John
April 3, 200323 yr I agree with you John. I was wondering the same thing today as to why it has not made CNN or the national news wires. It is amazing that he can use "homeland security" legislation to put this over. I think this is the kind of thing that people were worried might happen. There should also be legislation that prevents improper use of that one.http://www3.telus.net/midget_ice/Radar_small.gifThis ain't no game kid!http://www3.telus.net/midget_ice/Radar_small.gifhttp://www3.telus.net/midget_ice/dansig.jpg
April 3, 200323 yr Apparently the pilots of the stuck planes will be given (or *have* been given) a small window (by the city, no less) to depart via the taxiway..Any pilots that aren't able to move their planes during this short window will have to disassemble and move it by truck...Guess MS FS9 developers are now replicating the assault in FS9's scenery....... :( Wonder what the new default airport will be..... Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
April 3, 200323 yr The NY Times had a small article on it inside their National section in their Tuesday edition. I would say that this paper is pretty national, not as big as USA today though.Take care,-CJ
April 4, 200323 yr >All aircraft have now departed KCGX. Ummm.... Nope! One is still there. The pilot wasn't able to leave today because of the monsoon-like weather, and probably won't get out tomorrow either. In the meantime, a temporary restraining order has been issued by the court to block any further destruction of the airport, at least until sometime in May, when the case will be heard...
April 13, 200323 yr There have been people asking if the Meigs incident was a cruel April fools joke. The only fool in this whole thing has been Saddam Daley. I really hope he enjoyed his career. If he is not put out to pasture in the next election, then the people of Chicago are even bigger fools. Here is a couple of pics I got off the Alder Planitarium live cam about 20 minutes ago.1) News crews hugging the fence. This story is still not over by the looks of it.2) Wide shot of news crews.3) The stranded planes lined up.4) Wide shot of the "storm trooper" damage.http://www3.telus.net/midget_ice/Radar_small.gifThis ain't no game kid!http://www3.telus.net/midget_ice/Radar_small.gifhttp://www3.telus.net/midget_ice/dansig.jpg
