August 4, 201213 yr Jay- The technology "core" that was used in the 747-400 the MD-11 was based around a process that started with our FS9 NG that was released back in 2003. In effect- it was a code-core that was initiated in August of 2002. When we started to seriously consider PMDG's development future post MD-11, there was a very strong consensus within the team that the "code core" we were working with was inferior to what we were capable of, it was not well suited for funcational expansion, it was inefficient and poorly laid out... In short- it was time to clean-sheet our development and come at it with a set of fresh ideas and a completely new approach. Alex Bashkatov led that effort beginning four years ago this week, with a tremendous amount of input from Michael Frantzeskakis, The World Famous Dr. EV(il), and some others... At the end of the day we have a code base that is far more adaptable, and far more efficient. We have eliminated massive inefficiencies in data handling while simultaneously building a platform that will move (relatively) easily from FSX to other platforms... We don't spent a whole lot of time marketing the "core" of our product development process- but you will see the results with the expansion of the product line over the next 14-16 months or so... As each successive product releases- the quality of the others will also improve. We could never have done that with the old methods.... (Thanks for noticing tho- the guys were thrilled to see someone did!) Many thanks Robert and PMDG team for supporting the flightsim community with your outstanding job.
