June 11, 200421 yr Anybody know if I'm nuts here. Installer v25 downloaded. I've never had to use an installer. I prefered manual installs in FS2K2. But nonetheless, I will comply. The tutorial shows pics of all kinds of screens associated with installation options. Double clicking the install icon gives me a small dialog box with PAI credentials that says; "Please wait. Decompacting files."But I already did unzip the files. There's also a "Select a Package To Install" box where I can tell it where to look. But this is crazy. I have no install program like the tutorial shows.I'm losing my mind. I can't even type anymore.Anybody know the ins and outs to the latest PAI insanity? Thanks!!Rick (rubber room) Rouse
June 11, 200421 yr Rick, I just installed and ran the V 2.5 installer and everything works fine, although I found that the website has not been updated with the V2.5 information but things are essentially the same. First you have to unzip the downloaded traffic file to any folder. Next you start the PAI installer and browse to the package or packages you want to install, once you click on the one you want to install it will say that it is decompacting, yes you already unzipped it but it is probably reading the files it needs from the package to continue the set up. When it is finished it will go through the rest of the set up screens, like the choice of language and set up options, etc. If I am understanding you correctly all you have to do is browse to the file that you want to install, open that file and then you will get the rest of the install screens that you think you are missing. I do not know why the little box that says decompacting comes up before you select a package to install (mine does too now, but underneath the select a PAI package file box) but it is safe to ignore that box and select a package and then it will do it's thing.Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
June 11, 200421 yr OK Phil, Thanks.I get the "decompacting" box. I select a path to the pai install package, Boeing set 1, and click "open."Nothing happens after that. I waited 30 minutes and decided to close the "select" box. Then I get a fatal error box with Error 50 listed-no package selected.Well yes, I did select a package.Frustrating. I know it's got to work somehow. With everyone's help, I'm sure something will turn up. I understand PAI staff monitor these boards, so hopefully they might know what's going on.Rick
June 11, 200421 yr In case you have a soundblaster soundcard make sure to end the proces of the CTHELPER.EXE in the Taskmanager - Processes Tab (XP).hope this helpshttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpgPatrick/EBBR Regards, patrickHiFi Technologies Apha TesterFDC/PFE 3 Beta TesterAivlaSoft EFB Alpha Tester

June 11, 200421 yr Thanks for the link, Frank. But I've tried to register at PAI Forums. They keep telling me that the e-mail address I use is already being used.OK, I don't get it. So I've tried to depend on good ol' AVSIM because I've always been helped here. Seems no problem is too tough.I'm gonna try to start the computer in "safe mode" and try to run the installer that way, as recommeded in the PAI readme.I've looked for the buggy Soundblaster exe in Task Manager, but haven't been able to identify it there.I'm just curious. Am I the only one who has had the installer not work? Of the thousands that have downloaded it??????I must be a desert island.ThirstyThanks!Rick

June 12, 200421 yr No Phil, I haven't got it to work yet. Tried the safe-mode start this morning. Won't go.I'd appreciate your intervention at PAI. After losing my hard drive and converting to FS9, I've got a lot of work to do to return to my pre-crash level of customization...And PAI aircraft (regional jets and turboprops)are a big part of the mix. I'm just wondering. Does PAI require a user to obtain their installer via a download? Could someone use their installer and send me a CD? All I need from the installer are the aircraft models and FDE. I'm skilled at manual installs.I guess I don't understand why PAI would forsake any method except their own auto installer.Eyes wide open in KMKEThanks Phil!!Rick
June 23, 200421 yr PAI Installer Insanity Solved! So in a last gasp act of defiance, I grabbed one of the PAI packages from the folder it was kept in, and dragged it over to the actual installer icon and dropped it in.Lo and Behold, the Installer that had denied me access by following the PAI instructions, appeared.I repeated the same process,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and I have all of the PAI models I need for now. Thanks to all who helped or intervened on my behalf!I hope this helps those out there that gave up on the thing.Rick
