Windows cannot start at start up?

Featured Replies

I was using my compuetr gingerly yesterday when upon closing a call it all went haywire?

It began to restart (?)...But as soon as it got the logo the screen went Black and nothing happened...At tmes I left it there for several hours, but actually nothing happened.

I ten decided to switch it off via the switch at th front of the computer and restart that way severla times, Same result!???? Then I called MS Support here and got a sweat girl, who had to ask another technician for everymove or key to press before returning to my call.

At one point I thougth of doing a system restore? But impossible as I couldn't access the program. She eventually came back and suggested the same. But starting the computer on Safe Mode, which we did ,but restorring doesn't work in safe mode. No no good came out of this.

I decided to try to reinstall windows via CD several time to no avail, I had no connectivity with the internet, flags or sound.

Attempting again this morning a couple of times, TO NO AVAIL! I took the computer to a shop where the guy after opening it discovered my GC was gone, I had never opened this compuer in 5 years to give it a proper dusting and aparently this is the cause of my tears today.

Then my Girlfriend suggested a new computer...But no having hte budget for this I declined. the guy said a used one like yours maybe a little bigger for a little money might be?

Well tomake the story short I bought another computer today

A Dell VOSTRO 220

pendium R Dual Core Cpu E6300 @ 2.8 Ghz 2.79

3 GB

Windows 7 Professional

I'm in the proccess of installing everything...

Glad you were able to find the source of the problem. I was thinking a piece of hardware crashed too but thought of the HDD first as they usually go unexpectedly. Kind of surprised it was the graphics card. Glad to see you have it working again. Hopefully you are installing Windows 7 64 bit and not the 32 bit version. The 64 bit version handles memory better and you only have 3GB and that's near the bare minimum. I think your girlfriend had the right suggestion for getting a new computer but, if this is all you can afford, that will have to work.

Jim

Jim,Thanks for your reply!

After all what i've been doing these pat day, getting a new/used computer ( A matter of the money tree)....I got this one with Window 7 pro installed. I like it very much, all my programs are working now, Like my photo editing programs, that never worked properly on win7 Ultimate? I have this version of window also for 64 bit from my ol computer.( Original discs) But stll have a world to discover on this wersion and the ism is definately more exiting with the new memory and GC; So I'll wait and see what to do in future if I decide at some point to put in 64 bit?

That's okay having the 32 bit version but you might need to add the /3GB switch for Windows 7 so that FSX will be able to 'see' more than 2GB's of memory. Otherwise you could get out of memory errors while using FSX. The switch only works with SP2/Acceleration. The directions to employ the switch is at this link - http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html. Look a little way down for FSX Installation and then memory discussions. It's the same switch used for Windows Vista 32 bit.

Jim, Thanks fr your rely and advice. As you might understand I am knackered of reinstalling FSX and my addons in my new/used system. works very nice so far I get solid 21 FPS and very smooth flying even with complex addons like Citation llSPX by Eaglesoft; My loacal scenery was a cup of tea to load. but my Guadalupe St Barths has beena Pain today. first this morning I got an error message " Scenery .cfg file error,Invalid remore scenery path in scenery area 115. I couldn't get rid of th error so I reinstalled FSX completely. Then this afternoon ,,,Again with scenery area 121??? This one I got rid of by deleting the addons scenery folder. I'm asking in another thread her If I can simply restore it by making a new folder?Or if I hav to reinstall FSX\Gold again?

This is a common error in FSX when scenery is uninstalled but the scenery area and layer remain in the scenery.cfg. There's a freeware program called Scenery Config Editor V1.1.1 that will repair this error automatically - http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/files/V1.0/. Make sure you get the latest version 1.1.1. Here's another excellent link that provides more information about the scenery.cfg and how it works: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?160395-Add-on-Scenery-Files-In-Fsx.

That means your system registry is corrupted as the program uses the system registry to find out where FSX is installed. Use the free registry repair tool at Flight 1 to fix - http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library.

That worked ! Thank you Jim!

Now my next little issue,I'm afrasid to ask? Is how to run FSX as administrator in win7, to get it to show the Security Shield; I've tried descriptions of doing this from the net...But I can't get it show. Even though I have UAC completely turned down?

I had this working on my old system in win7 Ultimate.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you turned off UAC, there should be no more warnings from your system security. If you turn the slider up to the default, a security shield will notify you only when programs try to make changes to your computer. Glad the Registry repair tool worked!

Jim: Even with the UAC slider at default I don't get the shield or any warning? I do get a milisecond pause on the screen; I suppose this would be when the security shield asks if I want to run the program? But then FSX starts to load?

Does win7 Pro, treat this security differently than Ultimate?

Please explain to me,step by step how to change this settings in the my system to get the run FSX as adminitrator...

PS Now i've moved the UAC slider to Default and still I don't get a warning? What ae the setting I have t do when I Right click on the FSX.exe.

BTW My desktop icon has a Blue Arrow at the left bottom?

Please explain to me,step by step how to change this settings in the my system to get the run FSX as adminitrator

Simply right click the FSX icon on your desktop and select "run as Administrator". The blue arrow at the bottom left of the FSX icon is normal.

There are different features available between versions of Windows but security is handled the same - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions.

In regards to the UAC slider, at default it will warn you only when a new program or software tries to make changes to your system. When you first start up FSX you will get security warnings even with UAC turned off asking you if you want to trust a gauge or a piece of software (you should ALWAYS select yes when you install a new addon). After that, fsx will start up normally.

Thanks for you reply Jim, Much appreciated.

I did what you instruct above and it started normally.

I don't know what I was expecting of this was to get a warning? As I had in my old computer. As you say different version of Windows treat security differently; I was on "Ultimate" Before; NOw I have "Pro"

" When you first start up FSX you will get security warnings even with UAC turned off asking you if you want to trust a gauge or a piece of software"...This is the warning I am not getting? I may be wrong Jim, Isn't it the FSX.exe one has to ddo this to, "Run as Adminitrator"?

You can do that too. Same thing (the Icon on your desktop is a direct link to startup FSX). So, if you want to go into the directory where FSX is located and right click it and select Run As Administrator, that will work just as well. You must have all kinds of security programs running. I have absolutely none so it's hard for me to visualize the issue you are really having. For me UAC is turned off and I still get security warnings when I start up FSX after installing a new commercial aircraft. I do this one time and trust everything. Subsequent starts of FSX this will not happen. Whether you have UAC on or off, the security warnings will appear in FSX if you installed a new commercial aircraft or scenery. Once trusted, you won't see it again. Delete or rename your FSX.cfg, restart FSX and let the config rebuild and you'll get every security warning about a trusting a gauge or module again. But subsequent starts you will not see it.

Best regards,

Jim
